Scratch advice please

I would appreciate some advice about what to do about a scratch.

Can I first point out that I know very little about cars/body work/even polishing.

The scratch is about 12 inches long, doesnt look to deep but has at least gone down a few layers. Ive read other threads which seem to indicate cleaning polishing? what about t-cut? I thought that was a traditional method for some scratch repairs.

I would like some advice about what to do, is this something I can try and tidy up myself, if so by what method (do I need to by some products, if so which)?

Always hard to tell from a phone picture but that looks deep and horrible. Rule is generally if you can feel it with your nail you can't polish it out.

Don't go near it with T cut - that's dangerous stuff in the wrong hands and TBH given your level of skill that you declare I'd go to a paint shop and ask for their opinion as I doubt that will polish out, will need skill and the right technique and you could make it a lot worse.

They'll polish it out if possible for c£20 and if not respray the wing for £100 ish
 
Where abouts are you?

If your localish then i dont mind whipping over it with the DA to see what can be done...
 
What i say to people is what has already been said, if you can feel it with your nail then it's a trip to the body shop, however if somebody is willing to have a go for you with a DA and posses the appropriate skills then you have nothing to lose as it's going to the body shop anyway....So you might find you are happy with the results from the DA if only to buy you a bit of time. :thumbsup:

Not easy to see from the pictures ill admit, ive just been to examine it, it really doesnt seem that deep as doesnt much register (if noticeable at all) to the nail, doesnt register on the edge of a bank card either.

Z4M-2006, im Milton Keynes so not really local to you but thanks for the offer.

I guess the best option is to take it to a paint shop as suggested, if anyone has any recommendations in the Milton Keynes or Swindon area please let me know. I dont mind travelling a bit if ive the comfort of a recommendation.

In the meantime I may try a couple of local places to get some advice/opinion on the scratch to the naked eye.


Edited to ask, what does DA stand for? Duel Action?
 
If you're taking it to the body shop, have a go yourself before you take it to them. Wet sand it to soften the scratch then polish it back up.
 
I could also have sorted it for you if possible but again not local to you .

Hi, yes DA stands for dual action & describes the orbital action of some polishers, they are a lot more user friendly than a rotary one which burns into the paint quickly unless used by a seasoned user.

If that's black sapphire then you could fill the scratch with touch up paint de nib or wet sand then polish up and it would be invisible.
