Hi all,
I had to drop off the car with BMW this morning as a bit of an emergency.
What started happening last night was what appears to be a metallic scraping noise from the rear left. You can accelerate normally, and hear nothing; and also you can drive at a cruising pace in any gear and not hear anything. It appears to be linked to one of two things:
1) When accelerating hard, the rear of the car squats down, which may cause rubbing
2) Putting the rear driveshafts under load through torque
Other things to note:
- The car appears to be sitting normally and not sagging to one side
- Turning left or right makes no weird noises
- Braking doesn't generate any noises, and the car brakes in a straight line
- The car accelerates in a straight line, even when hard accelerating
Rear spring maybe? Any other ideas? Beemer can't look at it until Tuesday so I'm preparing myself for the size of the bill! It's under warranty though, so will have to see what happens...
