I'm doing some research into good routes around the area for the forum cross border raid planned for later this year. Does anyone have any favourite roads in the area they'd suggest? I've looked at a few biker favs but they don't necessarily translate to car friendly routes. I'll need to go for a mini hoon down there to check them out at some point
Similarly looking around about the Keilder area does any one know any good/recommended camp sites - preferably with a pub nearby and B&B options for the softer forum members...

Some great roads around Kielder, although timber wagons heading west rule the road.
Regarding camping at Kielder, midge repellant is a must.
I'll update with some good borders roads...

I'd heard that as a rumour previously, that Keilders the midge equivalent of a tank full of piranhas. The fact you've confirmed it makes me wonder about other campsites even more!

I would suggest A68, which is a great road, but there are 22 speed cameras from Edinburgh to the border :|

I'm not in any way inferring that we would be breaking the speed limit. I find that other motorists braking for the speed cameras can be distracting...

Erm, so yeah, I'll have to have a think :)

I like bits of the A68. Theres selected bits I'd want to include. In the main thread I'd proposed stopping or meeting at the Carter Bar layby. It's fairly big & fairly scenic for a photo stop

On the A68 at the otterburn junction there is a good road over to Kielder. The B6320 then take 1st right brings you back to the B6320 at lanehead. Some good roads round there I am up there a lot so would be keen to meet up for a mini hoon. Will dig out some of the roads I use over the weekend and will PM you some suggestions.

Sounds good. The roads are good down that way, but I've never strayed off the 68

I'm not so keen on kielder - dull man made forest with only 3 types of trees and no bioversity to speak of apart from the midges I would be inclined to head over to rothbury and Alnwick then probably across to the coast bamburgh, holy island, Berwick amazing scenery, great roads bts!
