Anyone had the same issue ? sometimes it works fine othertimes it just shudders and shakes but dosent move. It sounds as though the gears / motor which move it are slipping - can these be replaced / repaired or is it a case of having to replace the full unit ?

thanks

Replace complete screen unit, takes 15 minutes to do.

- Remove vent above radio
- Remove plastic cover from the back of the satnav screen, which covers 3 screws. Remove screws.
- Remove 2 screws from the legs now visible where the vent was.
- Lift unit out and disconnect cable.

There was a complete screen unit for sale on eBay recently at 250 quid. I saved it in watched items if any use ill get seller details to you. Was a grey one, dunno if that helps.

Sorry, I just realised I cleared eBay list Yesterday. It's no longer in my saved items :(

That's expensive you can get them from Germany for just over £100

Does the Z4 have the same sat nav screen unit as the X3....? :?

Can you let me know where in Germany? I've been looking for one to fix the same prob on my satnav but cant find one
Thanks

I have the exact same problem. Know what fixes it?
A good hard thump on the head (when it's closed). After that she works perfectly for a long while. I think it's actually something caught in the gears. I think taking it out and giving it a good cleaning would fix it... because the motor is obviously still good. it's just getting 'snagged' somewhere and closing back down. Same thing happens if it opens automatically and you physically stop it with your hand.

BTW - according to the sat nav manual for the Z4 you can open / close it by hand without damaging anything.

I had the same problem and bought a replacement unit off ebay this week for £200. Now to try and fit the thing!!

Think its worth trying to do yourself given that a dealer charges £1200 for the unit excl VAT and then you have to add on labour costs for fitting it!!

Will let you know whether its as easy to fit as people say!

Anyone on here got any advice for removing the vent so that I can undo the screws? Am wary of forcing it and breaking teh vent

Are there any parts of the vent which I should be trying to lift (ie is there a catch somewhere which releases it it)?
Thanks
