Sat nav thinks I'm in a lake!

Did a 110 mile journey to bham today and the sat nav couldn't find me location at all throughout. At one point it said I was in a lake. Arrived in bham and it still thinks I'm in London

Is there anyway to reset the GPS?

Got that sinking feeling ?

How many satellites does it show in the system menu? Usually an aerial failure but you could try the reset by unplugging the unit from power ( or battery)

As above disconnect battery I think it's ment to be for 30min to reset , I have unused gps antenna as thought mine had gone , but after not fitting looked at nav screen one day an all was well again,

A number of threads on this - I had this issue and it ended up being the GPS antennae - the reset option only fixed things temporarily as the antennae was on its way out. A quick and easy change - my GPS Antennae was behind the roof mounted lights, but on some models when retrofitted they appear to be on the structural beam behind the dashboard instrument panel.

My replacement thread here

Although.... you may want to check your drains as well ;)

It's nothing to do with the Sat Nav.

It's actually a common E86 issue that's been kept quiet for years. It's down to the tin roof on the Coo Pee blocking the signal to the satellites.

Roadster drivers don't have this issue as we know where we're going and therefore don't need Sat Nav.

Easiest and best solution is to get a Roadster and offload the tin top to some unsuspecting individual sharpish!

:poke:

Awesome post although you owe me for a new monitor as I spat my coffee all over it

There's a retrofit available to all Coupe owners.
Solves the GPS problem entirely!

Thanks for the replies guys, I did try searching on my phone but the first two pages of results didnt have anything in them.

As I was on the road it was hard to find the time to try a battery disconnect but I tried it for a couple of hours tonight to no avail. It still thinks Im 100 miles away from where I am. Looks like I will have to change the antenna..

This is the one im looking at which I think is ok?

So I took down the plastic cover in the center of the headlining and found a junction box, which I disconnected but I think this is the wrong place

Not sure what this thing does, alarm perhaps? As reading more threads the gps antenna is located at the front of the roof under the dome lights?

Checked the secret sat nav config menu and it says searching for satellites. Just need to know if I need the right angled connector:

Or the straight one:

Will then order and replace

Weird, mine had this issue appear last week too. Its been on the drive since saturday, going to give it one more chance on friday then bite the bullet.

This is si-forks PIC heavy guide

If pics don't look the same regarding antenna been above rear view mirror.
It might be in the dash. Am sure have read some are in there. Will try an find

Mine seems to have started losing signal recently (or I've only just started noticing!), the GPS logo disappears for a few seconds every few minutes even travelling in wide open spaces on a motorway. Do the antennas go slowly like this, or it it working/not working?

Mine was not working for ages then worked fine for a few weeks then not for few more then fine again, then installed Sony xperia ultra tablet instead. But new antenna are really cheap on the bay. I have a spare if your at the water mill on sunday

My dots on the map seems to max out at 4 from memory, tricky to count them on the motorway!

Just popped out to the drive, only 3 dots & no GPS, so does that mean it's working or not?!

Don't have the skills to do this, so if it needs changing will need to find a specialist; they can't get it wrong, can they??
