Sat-Nav retrofit?

I know we all have cell phones and use them for GPS etc. But has anyone with a non Sat-Nav E85 installed a factory Sat-Nav dash and unit in a non Sat-Nav factory car?

There’s several old threads about doing this retrofit, just do a search. BMW does not sell the retrofit kit anymore so you have source the parts from ebay. From what I’ve read, the cabling is the hardest one to find and you’d probably have to fabricate one from WDS diagrams.

Once I was tempted to do this mod as well and the parts were still readily available back then. But mine’s a definite keeper so the logic of doing a non-reversible mod to get a nav that is getting more obsolete year after year just didn’t add up.

Here you go, from when I did mine

I did two of those as well a long time ago. It is not just the satnav you gain but also the music centre, board computer, phone book. I loved mine when I had the E85s

Would the wiring be in place in a 2003 car? I have the Carver hifi and I was looking at a single din with screen but as this won’t work, I’m now thinking of a retro fit Satnav

You'd be better off fitting aftermarket, even if it means replacing the whole system. The factory nav is so dated now, it's got to the point I kind of wish mine didn't have it.

I know what you mean. I'd love to somehow replace the screen with something more modern. I reckon it's doable, but I wouldn't want to do it to my working one to try out, I do keep looking on ebay for a faulty one to take apart but no luck yet.
