Decided to dry run my retrofit Sat Nav stuff today.

I have two monitors, one known to be faulty which doesnt work at all, the other seems 100% reliable opening evertime so far.

Head unit seems to be fine also.

DVD drive is the issue.

Now the disk I am using I have copied from an E60 and confirmed it is OK in that car. DVD drive was advertsied as being from a Mini, so is it a firmware issue or something more serious.

Anybody any ideas?

You want to borrow my spare OEM BMW one? I have a 2005-1 original here.

I would also update the firmware to the latest version, that way you are also certain you have the BMW firmware with the BMW logo.

Do the other functions work ok? Like board computer, radio etc etc

I might have gussed you would be the first to answer. :D

Radio works fine, found the screen with extra computer funcions, so assume they are OK, ipod works OK, but didnt get chance to go for a drive.

I'm wondering that as the maps were from 04 and the Nav 03 that firmware maybe the biggest issue.

Might take you up on your offer though, if the firmware doesnt work.

Where the best place to get the firmware files and other info?

Could I also be using the wrong maps?

There is a High version, and others IIRC.

Also just found this comment on X5world

"The iDrive system is a completely different system from the MKxxx - in simple words, the MKIV/MKIII is based on the old Phillips CD-Interactive platform, whilst the iDrive is kind of based on Windows CE."

The map was from an E60 with idrive, I assume the maps are differnet as well.

Def update to the latest software version (available on X5 world) then slot in an oem disk (which of course you should use anyway..)
Copied OS is acceptable, but of course not maps. If you do use copied maps (purely to test) then you need to differentiate between professional and high and also be aware that copies frequently fail unless copied in a very specific way from the ISO file and burnt at the slowest speed.

can you confimr though it is the "HIGH" version of the maps that is required.

thanks

same here, and if the copy is from an iDrive BMW, it will NOT work
