Sat Nav problem

Hi

I've been having a problem with my in-built Sat Nav problem recently and wanted to get some views on what the cause might be (and what it might cost to fix!) before I take it to a BMW garage.

When I turn the ignition on and therefore expect to see the screen rotate/open, sometimes it opens fully then closes straight away, sometimes it doesnt open, sometimes it opens part way and sticks, sometimes it opens properly...When its open it works fine and have had no problems with the electronics etc but its just this opening of it which causes a problem.

Has anyone had this before and has an idea what it is and would cost to fix? Also, does anyone know how easy it would be for BMW to remove the casing, screen etc so that they can have a look at it? I really dont want them to have to spend 4 hours taking the car apart and having a huge bill for it.
Cheers!

- There are other readers who have had similar issues with the nav screen
- You can remove/replace this easily DIY - there are some guides on here - do a search and you will find them
- replacements are not so expensive secondhand

Probable fault is the stepper motor, this requires the screen to be replaced easy to do as Jamie says.

It is possible to get screens from around £100 on fleabay
