Sat Nav Pro - software version

Can anyone confirm what version of the Sat Nav version is being shipped on new Z4's.

My May 2009 car shows the following:

ECE
BMW
1.2.4
Road Map Europe Premium 2008-2

... but it seems that 2009-2 (version 1.5.20) might be getting shipped with new cars now. There also seems to be confusion on whether we will be able to update the software ourselves by DVD, or whether this needs to be done by BMW.

BMW UK Customer Services have just sent me the following "A software release for the hard-drive navigation system in vehicles to 'update' the maps is not currently available however we anticipate it will be available shortly via the BMW approved dealer network who will also be able to provide you with a cost for this upgrade."
 
I know for a fact the iDrive 2009-2 maps are out but then I think yours is entirely HDD now and no DVD, so I would assume it needs hookin up to USB to update.
 
Aaahh - thanks for this info. Yes, mine is the HDD based nav system, but I hadn't even thought that the update could be done through the USB port. The owner's manual seems to imply that it can be done with a DVD, but even BMW won't seem to confirm.
 
certainly the older ones (e60) were DVD, mine's CD, but I seem to remember reading it somewhere.

I'll have a delve as I'm interested too.

Andy - technically speaking, our cars E85/86 are DVD based to :)
 
Sorry I meant to upgrade firmware.. ours is generally CD although if you're pedantic I believe you can put the firmware ISO onto a DVD and it will still work.

Must remember to look into this.. :thumbsup:
 
i think the original idrive was, e60, 7er, etc.. but I think the new HDD based one isn't DVD..

Still haven't found the answer, but I'm starting think (as a geek) that I'd swap my simply sublime MR for a 09+ Idrive *anything*.

Breaker, looks like if you can get it, there's some really decent firmwares about for your guys cars.

I thought that also.

So would a firmware upgrade just upgrade the NAV system, or the full iDrive software???
