Don't you find with google maps that it does not work in areas with no phone signal (as in data)? That caught me out recently when driving one of my flimper spec cars.

Also, does not work abroad unless you have data.

TomTom on the tablet, ftw. GPS only.
Google maps when data available.

Bit off topic soz, but is there a way turn turn off voice guidance completely during nav? Can only turn down to lowest setting on mine but still hear it ofc.

If you have an intravee you can turn the sound off by default on start up with a menu option.

I think the screen works in two ways on mine.

If you click the mechanical close button, then it opens up every time you change track.

If you choose the 'screen off' option from the menu, then the picture displays for a couple of seconds and then goes off again.

Tried that, it still pops up the screen on mine. I'll look into the coding solution Mark mentioned...

So if you did not have the nav screen, i take it your best option for hands free and music would be a parrot?

If so does these work with all the speakers especially if you had the DSP option?

Im struggling to decide if its worth holding out for a car with nav. Its going to be a weekend toy, however i do want good control over music and phone.

With nav it adds phone control, additional board computer functions, nav, and with an intravee full control of an iPod.

You can also scroll to the voice instruction option once navigating and click the right button to disable it totally :)

Thanks for that! Gave up using it in favour of google maps/tomtom however.

The thing I hate the most, and the thing that stops me using it half the time is the fact that the planned route is a white line and the background is a very light grey :headbang:  FFS, only a moron would do this!

Please tell me I'm missing something or that an update to a later map/firmware will solve it. Also, traffic alerts......I've never had those :?

I did a bit of digging around here http://gpsunderground.com/forum/car-navi-system/car-gps-systems/bmw/ and managed to find 2016 BMW High disc images as well as a few different custom firmware updates. maps work fine but didnt get around to trying the fw as i'm on the latest anyway.

It's just a clunky system which i only use for mpg and occasional map in the background to see where I am when I get lost in Poland, lol.

It's not really full postcodes. It's first part then first number - so L11 5, then you are down to streets and numbers again. The firmware is v32.2, so not an official release but ones that's been tweaked.
