Sat Nav DVD or Drive?

Hi All,

My nav dvd has stopped working..

i did try to copy DVD to DVD but still not working

Anyone got any idea's?

Do i need to get another DVD? as thinking could my dvd drive not be working?

What's it doing exactly?

There are repair services or boards available, so might be worth looking into these.
 
I've just had to update my firmware.
And got the 2016 maps of UK n Europe.
Don't think new maps will work with old
Firmware.

nothings changed - so my cd should still work?

were did you get it from?

or can i just get the old maps cd from somewhere?
 
Are you using a non genuine disc mate? If so do you have a genuine one to hand?

Sounds like the laser is misaligned and its failing to read DVD (common issue) BMW sell a new loader/laser for under £100 on an exchange basis and its an easy fix :)

This happens a lot on the e46 m3 systems as they are getting older.

The system may work on and off for a bit until it totally gives up the ghost.

Seen on other forum that people have replaced the laser themselves looks reasonably easy if you can use a soldering iron

Try and find some one local to you and see if there disc works. If you are local to Guildford your more than welcome to pop over and try my spare genuine disc.

This will allow to to work out if it's a disc or loader error :)

The Nav in my 06 started getting a bit flaky last year, crash,reeboot searching for disc then 5 mins later the same thing to the point where it was becoming a pita. Read about the issues with the DVD drive, so I sourced a new unit from a Dutch company for about £90 delivered - Doddle to change once you've got the the Nav drive removed and been perfect since.

When you think about it the DVD drive has a hard life, it's up and spinning from the moment you open the doors, so units failing after 8,10,12 years of pretty much daily use shouldn't be a great surprise......how many of us have got 10 year o!d DVD players at home (Same drive tech)
