Sat Nav costs £200million in damages

That's just freakin' ludicrous. How on earth can you blame a satnav for an accident/incident ? Perhaps lorries going down streets to narrow for them ? Even then, it's not the satnav's fault. I can't believe insurance companies actually pay out against such a claim. They should simply write their policies such that you simply can't claim based solely on technology that YOU have chosen to put in our car. Jeesh

Certainly agree - if you've driven into a river because the GPS said to do so then you shouldn't be getting a pay-out! In fact you should probably be getting directed towards the nearest DVLA centre for retesting before allowing back onto a public road. Just think how many claims the insurance companies would squirm free from if you had an "I did something stupid" clause in your policy though.

A sat nav is an aid only, similar to using a map but a little more high tech. If you crashed your car whist reading a map stuck to the dash or some such, it's blatantly your fault. How can you blame the map. Even if it talks to you and says drive in to the river, the person driving the car still has the last say and therefore the responsibility.

Passengers in cars cause £2bn in damages, so that's why I don't carry one :P

Don't forget that this is all from a sample of 2000 motorists, who "blamed their sat-navs for £200m of damages" - so either each claim was for £100k, or Confused.com have taken all the claims where 'due to the sat-nav' and extrapolated them over the whole driving population of about 34 million drivers.

Which works out at £5.80 damage per driver - and doesn't nearly as scary as £200m.

 That explains it then - it's not idiocy, it's canny acquisition of funds through exploitation of insurers who are otherwise ripping us off 8)

I have been and still am often mislead by women and beer (respectively).

Not so much on the satnav :tumbleweed:
