Sand & spray vs powder coating

Seems lots of YT vids of people sending off wheels to be reconned from various vehicles.
Seems worth the expense.
Inside wheels though i paint annually with just Ali paint..

I’ve had a few things powder coated and can’t knock the finish

Not all that expensive either

My painted wheels are stone chipped all over after less than a years use. Wish I’d got them powder coated as it’s far tougher.

 Powdercoating every time, drop the car off in the morning and its ready that afternoon, no hassle. Only issue, deciding on the colour and finish

Depends on cost, if it starts going over say 100 a wheel, might as well buy after market wheels.
There are a lot of alloy wheel refurb companies about, be cheeky ask for discount (for cash), recently had a set of 4 x 19" done in shadow chrome £200 all in... if you're not cheeky £240

I always use UK Romax in Stockton teeside. Usually around £220 same day turnaround. Never had an issue and been going there for the last 20 years even though I now live in Shropshire.

Powder-coating in Leicester is at least £90 a wheel.

thats a rip off, I'd keep searching, saw one advert for £160 a set for standard colours 18"/19" in Leicester. Shows the diversity in pricing in just one area. It may be a case of searching and going to see the quality of their work, shame you're not near me. I've used the same company on both my E89, G29 also for a Boxster and a RCZ. I've attached a picture of 3 of the cars, really pleased with the quality.

Please tell me where!
(The car needs new tyres before we go on holiday in September and I'd like to have the wheels done first.)

Edit: £160 for 4 is Sand & Spray money. I'll bet you London to a brick you can't find Powder Coating for anything like that. The process is too long and complex.

Unit A1, Dawson's Lane, Barwell, Leicester, LE9 8BE, United Kingdom: https://a1powdercoat.co.uk
As I said earlier go along and see what the quality is like

Thank you!

The Devil may be in the detail, though.

"Our pricing is very competitive! From £120 a set for 17” and below with no tyres, with tyres an extra £20." (Mind you, an extra inch shouldn't cost much more. However, ... )

"When we receive your wheels they will be stripped, blasted, coated have the tyres put back on and then be balanced before we return them to you. We aim to get the alloys back to you as quickly as we can, usually 3-7 working days."

So it looks as if they're a 'wheels only' operation. (And on Google Maps it looks as if they don't have secure car storage while your car is wheel-less "for 3-7 working days".)

I'd definitely go for stripping and powder coating - it's much more hard wearing.

I got four 18s done in Basingstoke in 2021 for £300, but that included a disposal charge for the old tyres. Same place this year charged me £163 for two 17s for my 3 Series - and I've already kerbed one! :headbang:
