Safe to park on streets?

I'd tend to look at insurance post code ratings before deciding whether or not to street park my car long term. Luckily, I live in an A rated area with a driveway. As people say, it's only a car but I still wouldn't leave it on an inner city council estate overnight. That's what my glorious £500 Polo is for!

The only scratches I ever seem to have picked up on my car are from bloody cats. Meguires Scratch X has saved my sanity on a couple of occasions now!

No hard and fast rule....
bad areas are an obvious no no, good areas are ok, but it only takes one idiot / vandal / thief.

Although its our pride and joy, at the end of the day you cant live you life on maybe's, something could happen but you could crash while driving it at any time, it could be damaged while parked somewhere else.... see where im going.....

Its a car,its insured so enjoy it !!

It's all about the area really. I used to live in another part of Nottingham, where my RenaultSport Clio was keyed 4 or 5 times in a couple of months.

Another bonus, it's cheaper to insure on the road overnight than in a garage. :thumbsup:

Because they reckon the risk of it getting nicked/vandalised is lower than the risk of you pranging or scratching it whilst moving it in or out of the garage. I think on a private driveway is the cheapest option.

When I was requoting this year I tested all options - and on the road was cheapest of all. It may be dependant on areas and other criteria of course...

I was suprised too when I first found it - in fact it was from an old thread on this very forum! :thumbsup:
 
Just had a little play on my saved quote - the cheapest is actually "residential parking area", but only by £3. The only thing I changed here was where the car was stored overnight...

Crazy but I've heard it before on Pistonheads. I might play about with mine come renewal time.
 
Mine's been on the street in NW London since I bought it a couple of months ago. I can just about handle it - got to park somewhere near the flat so I can check up on it in the morning and I deliberately do a bird poop "jog-by" when out running! Might install a scarecrow in the summer.

I really hope I don't have any trouble, but I am reasonably well prepared for the worse. Had to remove a couple of butt-ends from the hood recently, which just shows the kind of street skanks that are about, but to be honest I'm more worried about being struck by a random mechanical kiss of death.
 
I've got an esure quote in progress at the moment and just did some storage tweaking on mine and the price never changed... can't believe your quote is most expensive when stored in a garage?! No idea what the logic is behind that rating! :-o

Allegedly it's because there are more claims for damage on cars that are parked in garages. They are more likely to have things fall on them or bash into them. Possibly also because a fair few claims are caused when people misjudge distances when driving into or out of their garages.

The one I don't understand is why car that have Trackers fitted attract higher premiums than those which don't (as mentioned on here by a few people).
 
Im the same, always insure my zed on the drive but park it in the garage for the price reason. Stupidity? Insurance certainly is.
