I swear I saw a post about a member here that had near the same issue as I.
His dash lights did not come on when turning the key and then they would. Tho his car allowed him to start, mine would not till the dash lights and "pre Diagnostics?' could give a go.
I saw some one say Ignition.... and as it was getting worse every time I turned the key, if the dash lights would light or not, I had to cave in and take it to the dealer near me and let them give it a go. There is one indy near me but I have never been there and not sure what his capabilities are, so go pro or go home right?
Needless to say, one of the faults they read are Loose tumblers, ignition, suggest replace. Mind you, being a coded part blah bah, this is one hefty bill, so I swallowed my pride and said yes, since I experienced a situation like this with my wife's previous car. She tends to carry enough keys that weigh over 2lbs. She has no idea how to purge unused/unwanted keys. I myself always carry as few as possible and might at best carry 6 or 7 grams/keys at one time.
Before this started happening tho, since I own a coupe, the key FOB when I pressed the button would cycle many times before i got an unlock to the Boot/trunk. Did not matter if it was key fob or footwell, it would cycle 3 times and may or may not unlock. Was also glitchy to get it to lock.
Other note: It is an Auto with steering wheel paddles, Those did work. One of the great things I loved with this 3.0si Auto.
So now after a hefty bill of replacing the ignition switch, and many days of waiting,, 1) cause they had to order it 2) they had to fit it and get it to work with my keys, 3) they had some kind of glitch which added a couple extra days.......
I got it back. The ignition was stiff on insertion and turn and the dash lights light up every time allowing the self diagnostics to run and give a go.
Start up lets go.
So before leaving the lot I turned the key on and off several times, dash lights lit up like the should. I pulled the key and got out, closed the door, made sure the lock functions worked right, made sure the double press rolled the windows down, pressed the unlock on boot/trunk and it only cycled one time, behold it was unlocked. (mind you it was glitchy before) and latched like it should. I tried it a few more times while the guy was standing next to me.
He was looking at me curiously and I explained it had been glitchy. He nodded as if understanding, so I got in, set my seat to memory 1 and started up.
All IS Right With The World.
So Head down the road to what should be a joyous rekindling of spirits, reunited with my love, knowing she has sat for more than a week, going on two, she needs to rev to get some oil up into her nether areas and keep her purring creamy smooth.
On ramp..... just in drive, looking at the speed of traffic, I know she's in 6th ad I'm in drive and not sport mode. Pushed my foot down a little, heard and felt her drop down to 5th and I'm ramping up speed tho the diesel 16 Wheeler in my on coming lane is not slowing nor would I expect him to, so press the wheel shiftier paddle and im still in 5th. I pressed it again, still in 5th, slammed the peddle to the floor and off we go....
Gawd dammit.
Latter as I'm headed home tried the sport shifter and it works fine. Piss's me that the paddles dont. Called and emailed as soon as I got home.
They will fix what was NOT broke come hell or High Water.
