Sad and soon to be non-newbie

Hi all

firstly, thanks for the forum. It has been a really useful resource and I really don't know why I have only just registered. Secondly, I am quite sad as I have to sell my lovely 2006 E85 due to expecting a new one and a 2 seater not being an appropriate family car - it doesn't even have isofix :)

I wanted to ask some quick advice as I just had an argument with a dealer who was saying I was out of my mind with my asking price even though its pretty much the cheapest 56 plate for the milage etc. Thanks if people were willing to help:

  • • Do optional extras increase the value of a car, or just a enticement to buy? My 56 plate E85 has loads including parking sensors, heated seats, full leather, MF steering wheel etc. from my research, not many on the market have as many and I think it makes mine better value assuming they actually ad to the car
  • • I also have the removable hardtop roof in the same colour - is it worth selling this separately as I have seen the last one sold on eBay for £921. Does anyone think Z4 buyers are looking for this, or is it so rare (I haven't seen one for sale on Autotrader and only a few around) that it's not worth asking more for the bundle

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Paddy

Guess it depends what you are looking for the car as to whether the price you are putting on the optional extra's is too much.

Personally i think they can have an impact on value, and certainly appeal. Most of them are rather gimmicky but people still want the terrible nav, parking sensors that fail and folding mirror that get slower and slower until one day they break. However my opinion on these gimmicks aside they should add a few hundred quid to the right buyer.

In regards to the hard top, sell it separate. You will make more money.

thanks. I think if I took of what I put on the total price for the roof, it would make it the most reasonable on the market for it's age mileage etc, so I think I will.

What size engine is it Paddy? - that's likely to make a much bigger difference than optional extras, 3.0si being far more sought after than 2.0i Sport for example. However, if you are selling a 2.0 then the extra options will be a big help in the sale. Low mileage leads to a strong price as well.

If you want top money for your Zed then a low mileage, well maintained and cared for example which is fully loaded will obviously do well but that's true of any car.

The strong prices for Zeds at the moment may be due to the time of year and the recent inflation of ///M versions. This is helping facelift examples hold their price.

You don't really give enough details for others to comment on your post.

If your Zed is as described then I'd be selling privately.

Sell your hard top separately - the buyer may not particularly want it and although of value would, in that case, just be an extra option. They are sought after however and you'll get the best return selling individually.

Good luck with your sale.

:driving:

Out of interest Paddy....what colour is your car....more importantly the hard top. Definitely sell this separately.

Thanks - I say low mileage, but that's my opinion on the year :) - it's probably not that low as there are older models with less mileage:

2006 (56 plate) Z4 silver 2.0 SE
80k miles
extras - heated seats, MF steering wheel, all leather int, wind break, rear parking sensors, rain sensor, auto aircon, folding exterior mirrors, chrome trim, fog lights + the roof

because of the roof being worth nearly £1000 according to what I see on sales, I stuck this at £6750. But I think Ill take the roof out and put it under £6k.

Ye unfortunately I would say its on the lower end of the spec range being the smallest engine and an SE. I would say 90% of Zs will have this sort of spec or better not to say it isn't a lovely car! Your not wrong about the roof if it is in good nick there is no reason you won't get good money for it.

You will find selling it privately will be the best way

GLWTS

Thank you everyone who has replied. You guys are a great help and I have a much better understanding of what I have now :) will definitely be selling the roof separately.

Hardtop separately should bring you £750ish which it won't if included in a trade in .
2.0 Z4s are in abundance (100 currently for sale on Ebay :o ) & your best way to get a true market value is enter your details in WBAC & the figure they offer you should expect to achieve 10/15% more selling privately possibly even 20% if the car looks desirable in the pics & description
Best of luck
