S54 Envy

So Ben from PBMW (for those who read the mag) has just posted this on FB...

The problem is this, when looking for a z4c, I considered the M, but due to age, insurance was less than kind, and for the most part, that doesn't really bother me given how good the package is as a whole...but the sound from a s54 with velocity stacks and a decent exhaust really makes me wish I had an s54 under the hood.

You will always want what you don't have, try and enjoy what you do have! S54 owners probably spend all night wishing they had a Lambo :lol:

I used to be like that...but when driving, the M never crosses my mind...it's seeing builds with S54's that rekindles my desire for an s54.

I guess this all means I need stacks and a decent exhaust for mine. :lol:

Darren Slone, that's the most infectious part, the acceleration! I can't ever get bored of watching Mike from stancework's feature on this s54'd e36.

Savage. Prefer the stock CSL sound, with the "metallic hammering" of the engine dominating a little more, but this is absolutely brutal.

What happens at 0:31?! Sounds like a Jewish Wedding.

Ive had a S54/S65 but I would much rather have a Lambo! :lol:
 
what does he mean by open trumpets?
has he replaced the standard inlet with independent throttle bodies and not bothered with a filter over the trumpets?

correct.

Generally running open velocity stacks are okay from what I've found as it get's burnt up in the chamber, anything else will sit in the oil which should be changed more often.

Fluid motorworks did a cross country (USA) trip in their M3 with no filter, just fresh oil for the trip and fresh oil on their return.

not sure i would run without a filter anything big gets in there and its going to be nasty... i guess its all under the bonnet tho so not exposed. but still....
I'd be interested in the results on the power output by going to to independent throttle bodies. (and how he did it with the ECU etc) on my westy it took a standard 130bhp zetec up to 175bhp. its more than just noise is done correctly.
