Rusty wheel bolts....

The wheel bolts on my Zed are rusting and completely let down the appearance of the car so decided I need to sort them out.

3 options :

- Refurb them - best off sanding off, primer and using plasti-coat as i've done before but the problem is they always chip when refitting ?

- Wheel bolt covers - are these available for the Z4s? As the locking wheel bolt seems to be a different size / shape to the rest?

- Aftermarket bolts such as TPI polarised bolts would look good but can't seem to find anything available for this model?

What have you guys and girls done to cover your rusty bolts?

I brought black after market as to referb them you would have to either do some at a time or have the car on all four axel stands so the easiest option is to buy after market black ones and if these rust up i can referb my rust coloured OEM ones black

Have you got a link to the bolts you bought out of interest?

Wheel bolt covers are available, but most don't pass close inspection, and the plastic goes brittle and cracks within a year. You could paint them, but as you say, they chip. Like JE I purchased some aftermarket black ones.

Or just keep them clean and touch up with enamel paint every month :)

Cheap ebay bolts but they make a world of different , looking to buy some TPI polar wheel bolts soon

I gave mine a good clean with a wire brush, then a few coats of Rust-Oleum Satin Black Multipurpose Spray Paint I bought from B&Q

I was actually looking at the VW wheel bolt covers - they're a matt black plastic finish - I just can't seem to find they're external dimensions :

Which aftermarket bolts did you purchase out of interest?

I think i'll give this a go as a temporary fix - how have they held up to chipping etc? Did you prime them first?

No primer used and so far so good, although I would expect them to chip slightly over time when tightening or removing them. But hey, it doesn't take long to flash the rattle can over them again :)

I can't remember where from - they were standard M12x1.5 60 degree tapered in black. Wasn't eBay, will need to check my links
