Runflats on the front, normal tyres on the rear?

Hi, picked up my Z4 yesterday and one tyre had an advisory for 1.7mm and the other rear 2.0.

At the moment the car has runflats on but on my last Z4 I changed them all for Falken (452) iirc. The two front tyres are pretty much brand new run flats.

Question is, can I replace the rear tyres to non runflats and leave the front tyres on runflats until they need changing?

Yes, I believe you can and it is safe doing so but personally I would change all 4 to falkens and sell the 2 runflats on.

I bought a worn pair to trade my old Z back in as BMW wont take on non run flats so often is a market.

You should be able to sell them on here or Ebay. Probably looking at £40 a tyre if they have plenty of tread left maybe more. You have got to remember that they are £200+ each brand new. I just replace a rear one that had a bad puncture with a part warn 255/35/18 and paid £50 for it fitted (6mm tread left / no damage to the sidewall). You shouldn't have much trouble getting rid of them on Ebay if your willing to post them the 225/40/18 size of the fronts is a very popular BMW size.

I sold 2 front RFTs on here for £50. They sold instantly.

Replace all 4. It's not worth mixing them; especially as you'd have HARD RFTs and SOFT Falkens. They are a world apart in their handling characteristics!

Ok cheers, Will check What tread is left on the front.

Are falkens fk452's still regarded as being quite a decent mid range tyre? I had no problems with them on my last z4 was just wondering whether any new tyres had appeared with decent performance without being a total unknown budget brand?

As a total newbie to rft and z4 in general, I hope you will excuse a totally stupid question, but if you put non rft on the car, would you end up with the tyre pressure light on, on the dashboard? How does the car know whether you're on run flats or not?

Nope, the sensor is elsewhere, so you get no lights when you change tyres.

Tommo, Falkens are considered to be good tyres with 95% of the performance of the better tyres. Personally I thought the sidewalls were a bit soft, which reduced turn-in capabilities, but overall they were good.

Not true with all dealers, I have spoken to three or four and they were all willing to take my car with non runflats.

Willing to take it, but they'll knock the price down to replace them with runflats, will they not?

can some one tell me if fitting normal tyres really does reduce tramlining ? ive had the car geod its fine but the tramlining really spoils the drive tried all different pressures to no avail ive heard non reinforced and non assymetric tyres improve ride and reduce tramlining is this true ? due to the state of our roads id rather sacrifice handling for a safer more comfortable ride

May people have switched to non runflats on here. I waited two years for my runflats to wear out and noticed the ride got a very, very bad towards the end. I switched to Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta and my car no longer tramlines, wish I done it sooner and sold the runflats.
