Runflat repair - success!

Long time, no talk, guys and gals. I've been mental busy at work and it doesn't look like letting up soon. Damn you Americans and your sub-prime mortgages :D

Anyways ...

I got a screw stuck in my right front RFT tyre. Balls. It wasn't that old... went to the local Kwik-Fit who did the usual, 'sorry mate, I'm not allowed repair a run flat'. Sod him.

Went to a tiny little tyre place on the way home, he plugged it up in about 15 minutes and I was all set. It's been 2 weeks, and all's fine. Only charged me a tenner as well.

The screw was about 6cm from the edge of the tyre.

There's a lesson in there somewhere - always take a puncture to the small guy around the corner rather than the big corporate tyre place.

D.

And then hope that that tire's integrity is not compromised when you are driving at high speeds. As I understand it, the issue is not about getting a RTF to hold air by patching it, but having it's integrity intact.

davidpfitz, maybe you should consider that a nice temporary patch until you buy a replacement tire. I would keep my eye on it.

I recently had a small puncture in my left rear tire, but I did not end up with a happy ending. Like you I took it to the "small guy", except he removed the tire and patched it from the inside. Unfortunately, the pathced tire would not hold air. I suppose I could have brought it back and had him try again, but at this point, I had no confidence left in the tire. Ended up shelling out $340 for a new one :-(
