Run flats V non run flats

Sorry about yet another tyre topic but I have at present on my Z4 35i s M sport. (E89) 19 " wheels with 255 30 R19 91Y on the rear and 225 35 R19 88Y on front. run flats. I am thinking of getting rid of the run flats and have a good set of tyres which are 265 30 ZR19 93Y rear and 235 35 ZR19 91Y front. Can anyone advise if they will fit ok and whether it does really make a diference to the ride quality of the car.
I had a 335D M sport before and it did make a big difference to that car.

Edit: Moved to 'Wheels and Tyres' - AlanJ

I can't comment on the E89 for ride and fitment but there are loads threads on here about the differences between run-flat and normal tyres.

For the E85/E86 it's night and day, crap to amazing!

Agree with all of the above - quick search on here will show (in hundreds of posts and threads) that the vast majority who carry out the change never go back

Standard tyres will give a more comfy ride for sure, but I'm still not convinced its the best way to go with cars where the suspension is set up and tuned to work with runflats, don't care what people say which is why I would stick with RFs. If you do go with normal rubber ensure you get XL tyres with a stiffer side wall to compensate for the loss. Still not convinced carrying goo around either albeit you don't get punctures often but a runflat for me is still the better option unless its serious damage to the tire. I would still prefer standard rubber but with a proper spare wheel like days of old :)

Those sizes will fit OEM 19"s. If you have the tyres, whack em on and try them, you've only lost the cost of fitting if you hate them. Personally, the only way I'll keep this car in 6+ months time is to get rid of the run flats. They eat wheels and make me cringe every time I hit the slightest imperfection. I spend more time looking for holes in the road than enjoying the car. It wasn't until I had some run flats off the tyres recently that I realised quite how hard the sidewalls are. Great in an emergency, and I used to agree with Tims concerns above, but I've had way too much hassle over the last three years as a direct result of run flats now, they're going.

I'm one of the converts from run flat to proper tyres. The former simply spoil the car and make it an uncomfortably scary driving experience. Frankly if the car is "tuned" for run flats then somebody needs to go back to "tuning" school because they got it woefully wrong. Make the change, you will not regret it. Before run flats = :( After run flats = :D

I have to say that the E85 on ruflats was a dreadful, tramlined crashing ride but the E89 , even with the Msport suspension pack is quite acceptable.

Yes its a very firm ride - Its a sports car not a saloon car.
It's also worth noting that the dealers dont like non-standard tyres on the car when at trade in time and will make the appropriate reduction!

I wonder whether alot of the MK1 owners were running on the older type runflats which is why they changed to standard rubber and haven't actually experienced modern RFs so do the downer on them. My Z4 is definitely better for ride than my old 2010 E87 M Sport. Like you say its still firm but I like that and as you say its not a saloon.

Quite agree Ronk ,the 2007 OEM Bridgestones were atrocious ( I have always suspected they were better on US roads )
I changed to Michelin Pilot Sport ZP and it made a huge difference in 2011 so there is no question in my mind that the technology has improved

Reassuringly expensive

I'm at 8k and my zed is a summertime / holiday toy and as such only do 3 to 5k max a year -so probably in three years time you'll hear me bleat on about the price!

I'll probably stick with RF's as on the last car the ride improved but I found the initial turn in lacked the previous sharpness. Overall it was much improved over the old style RF's tho.
