Im sure this has been covered already but can you tell me whether you can use run flats on m wheels. If not why not?

afraid not , similar debacle myself recently & luckily forum friend educated me.
due to RF wheels having an extra lip on the inside of the rim for the tyre to sit on when running flat .
RF tyres would fit the M wheels but would not function as designed .

If you are talking about the proper Z4M wheels, style 224M then no, but if you mean M sport wheels like 135m then yes

So does that mean they would fit and inflate but not run flat ... Does that make sense?

IIRC, if you get a flat the whole tyre could come off the rim. I think you would struggle to find a fitter to put RFTs on a wheel designed for non-RFTs anyway...
