RUN FLAT REPLACEMENT

Hi, been readin this forum for a couple of months when my wife expressed an interest in changing cars.
Finally sold her 307cc and looking to upgrade to a 06/07 Z4.

Few questions though

Runflats, Do you need to do anything when changing from runflats to non? What happens with the sensor to advise you on the dash? What is the difference in price of the tyres?

Do you notice much of a diference with a wind stop??

IS ther an easy way of valuing a car as there is such a wide range of prices, but sometimes the options are not listed in the adverts. Is there any must haves options?

ANyone retrofitted parking sensors??

Thanks
Graham

I have a coupe without parking sensors - really can't see the point of them on such a car (esp the roadster).

I would say heated seats are a must on a roadster.

ROSSGR, welcome to the forum...

Replacing the RF tires is the best upgrade you can make and the tire pressure sensors are independent of the type of tire being used. Be sure to research this as it seems in the UK you must notify your insurance company if you make that change. RF tires are quite a bit more expensive.

I recently added the BMW mesh wind stop and it does make a difference. IMO not a huge difference but nevertheless noticeable.

Hi and welcome, a good 'search' of the forum will get you most of what you want to know but in the meantime,

RFT's are generally a straight replacement although some fitters and dealers will BS on the point and the tyre pressure gadget often needs resetting aftrerwards with a push of the button. 99% of owners who change from the original spec Bridgstone RFTs to alternatives (expensive) or good non-RFTs agree that they transform the car, totally - full stop.
Non -RFTs are generally 30%+ cheaper, but be aware some dealers don't like to take Z4s in PX without RFT's so some people take off their part worn RFTs and keep them for re-sale.

Most roadster owners appreciate a wind stop which helps quite a lot

Published Z4 valuations are a rough guide only. As with any car and prestige sports in particular, condition and a verifiable history of proper maintenance are more important than mileage and is worth paying for (It's a Beemer hence everything costs 200% of a reasonable price). Average or poor examples are not selling unless well under book at the moment, well presented cars with low mileage and proper histories will find buyers. A trawl of Autotrader or Pistonheads will give you an idea.

Options are personal (I've got quite a few on mine that I wouldn't bother with) and some of them cause more trouble than they are worth particularly on older cars (e.g auto lights, wipers, dimming, xenon lights, lamp washers, 6CD etc all IMHO of course). http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21846&p=308270&hilit=+options#p308270

With that long nose front parking sensors are probably more useful than rear but I don't rate either really.

Do your research and buy with care and you will love a Zed, good luck

Definitely tell your insurance company if you change to non run flats (just in case) - I've spoken to a few recently and they have a said they either don't consider it a mod or it just doesn't affect insurance cover.

I have an email from BMW Uk saying that while they wouldn't recommend it, and it may affect handling, there's no problem with doing it, and they suggest using BMW approved Goodyear or Bridgestone tyres.
