Run flat monitor and tyres

Parked up at traffic lights when the monitor kicked in. Only 2 mins from home. Checked all tyres and last one was low pressure so tried inflating wouldn't seem to take much more.

Took it round to local tyre fettlers about 1 mile away. Very obliging and helpful guy had a look and couldn't see any nails etc. and he was able to pressurise it straight off. Said I would see how it went and could I have a quote for a replacement tyre. Matching Bridgestone £365!!!! but as I had turned white and looked on the verge of a heart attack - he could do it for £300.

Drove home. Tried to reset monitor. Instructions say (Z89 2012 with software upgrade) do only while ignition on (how else!!!!!) OR with engine on. With engine off option for monitor reset greyed out. Engine on not greyed out and something might have happened but no confirmation. On the other hand starting up at moment gives no warning. See what it says tomorrow.

Managed to book in to local BMW for check on Friday. Fortunately under warranty and have 5 year service pack on it. The other day I indicated right and the indicator would not shut off. Engine off and indicator off and not repeated since. Hoping therefore it may be an electronic glitch but unfortunately the pressure was low. Possibly valve ...

If I have to replace the tyre I would surely be better ditching all of them for a sensible set. The tyre 'expert' said if I did I would have to be careful about non run flat soft tyres damaging alloys and other such dire consequences. I know the alloys an the Z89 are prone to crack so it is said.

Any recommends for good replacement tyres in case that one is stuffed?

Ironically I am just in the process of selling dirt cheap a full set of excellent tyres I had spare from my Boxster sold last year and now I need to possibly spend 3 times as much to essentially replace 1 on a Z4 and I thought Boxster ownership was expensive! Last new set of hi spec Conti's I bought for the Boxster was £600. A positive snip compared to £385 a corner for the Z4!

Any suggestions for the best course of action gratefully received.

Possible cracked alloy if the tyre wont retain pressure :?
Many on here consider the runflat tyres the cause of alloy cracking not normal tyres
But normal tyres usually have less of a side wall which I guess makes parking etc a bit more hazardous :)

The "expert" is completely wrong about non runflat tyres causing cracking. It's actually runflat tyres that cause the wheels to crack.

Buy a set of premium tyres off tyreleader and get them fitted at a local ATS.

Wrong! It's the hitting of potholes at speed that cause the cracks :P
I've had runflats for 8 years on two lots of 18" and now 19" and not one crack. :?
