Royal mail is an indication of the UK in 2024

So this is a bit of a 'grumpy old barsteward' rant post, but I don't think I'm wrong here....

I noticed today that Royal Mail 'tracked 24' parcels now have no guaranteed delivery date and 'suggest' 1 to 4 days.
FOUR days for a 'first class' parcel? The number 24 used to be a designation in hours, not days!
Under the mis-selling rules they should re-name it 'tracked 96'.

God only knows what the time schedules for '48' are now......maybe days?

So the cost of postage has exponentially risen in the past years and their service has got exponentially worse. Sounds like a common theme in the UK today.

Which brings me on to another typical example, this time related to my work.

I asked a sub-contractor of mine to do a job on Monday. This involved changing a water removal pump in a chocolate shop. It is a very simple job, a trained chimp could do it. Last evening I received an email from the shop to say they had water pouring all over the floor just 24 hours after the work had been done. So I rang my sub-contractors this morning, first thing to alert them of the problem.

When I told the girl on the phone of the situation I was (naively) expecting her to say something along the lines of "oh dear, that's not good, sorry. We will get that sorted as a priority".
But I actually got the response of "OK. Can I have a purchase order number and we will look to book it in?"

I had to laugh, as it was the only thing I could do, other than lose my temper.

Again...this is the common attitude to customer service in 2024. I so want to retire and leave them all to it!

Rant over. For now. :x

Why not just send them a tracked 24 parcel, would have been almost as quick.
