Rough idle and smoking

Hi there, notice the other day my z4 3.0l started to run a bit lumpy. So removed plugs and found they were very coked up and a slight sign of oil on them! Started it again and seamed to be ok! Took it for a short run and all ok until I pulled up in my drive and it started again and was silly amounts of white smoke! Unsure weather blue smoke or not! Try again today and a slight knock from the engine every so often! Slightly concerned! Just wondering if anyone has had the same thing or can point me in the right direction! Thank!
 
Check your coolant level and pull your dipstick see if you have any mayo like substance in either. Sounds a bit like a head gasket failure to me. Although the information is a little limited.
 
Thanks for quick reply! The engine is a second hand one! Due to original blowing up on me! It was a 53,000 rear ender (apparently) there are no signs of Mayo and coolant seams ok! Also temp gauge stays at correct temp throughout! :|
