All very interesting guys. Very helpful.

Interesting to see how z5 etc could change it all but who knows. At the end of the day im buying for fun.

Just out of interest... at what point would you say the milage starts to really effect the depreciation. Over 100k? Just due to the fact that mentally its hitting past the 100 mark?

Im just wondering if there are brackets where it starts to get bad for investment e.g 50k fine, 80k run well but hard, 90k on the verge, 100k breaking point, 120k heavy wear, 150k getting to end of days etc.... thoughts?

The simple answer to this is don't buy it thinking it's an investment. Buy it, cherish it. enjoy driving the nuts of it and if you break even over a few years your a winner all the way.

Wise words.

I see your from cornwall... I'm extremely envious of your roads... I go down there quite a lot. Might have to go there quite soon actually... just bout myself a zed, so I think a 'pilgrimage' is in order!

Do you have a list of good routes to drive by any chance. Or any site... or are they all pretty good?

Evening all,

This should bring out all mater of opinions, however lets open pandoras box anyhow.

So the question is.... As of this current date, what would you say is the depreciation is of your Z4 per year?

I'm guessing a good way of doing this (open for ideas though) would be to estimate the current value of your Z4 and 'foresee' how much it would be worth in X years time with X amount of miles on the clock. Not sure how referb fits into it all, but I suppose you could estimate.

Just putting the idea out there as I have yet to buy a Z4, therefore I'm trying everything I can to justify spending as much money as possible

Having owned mine my Si ( Cooop ) for those across the pond :D Or Coupe for others including the french who made the word up, for 9 weeks now and having paid , probably in the upper value (9.5K) , as I saw that it is a very straight car, low miles, low owners ( I am 3rd) and full history, if I keep the car to a great standard , for the next few years, can see a free car, with zero depreciation . Any longer then it may even pay for my insurance and VED , but as a whole, that is good , but not the reason for buying one. I bought a coupe E86 as been looking at them for many years and thought now was the time to get one , to use, to enjoy and meet like minded people  :driving:

I'm not sure about later cars, but early e85 roadsters in good condition and history have now bottomed out, rough examples will slide gently towards the breakers as they are worth more in parts.

Long term? - Name me a RWD, purpose built, 2 seat sports car with a muscular engine that hasn't achieved classic/sought-after status? There's even a weedy 1.9 Z3 on Car & Classic for £18k :o OK it's a low mileage garage queen minter, but it just shows how early clean and original examples can become sought after.

I bought mine from a dealer and paid over the odds, based upon what I just got for it then it depreciated 1k per year. I did pile on the miles though and loved every minute  :driving:

I paid just over £7k and sold for £5k (I’d been offered £3700 in px) so just over £2k in 3 years for my 3.0si, cheap motoring
