Wow who expected that!!!

A team from nothing (well almost) just coupled with the Mercedes engine and gearbox, not only wins its first GP but has second to boot.

The smile on Jensen's face will last for months :D

I know it wont last, but what a pleasure to see not only a different team/driver win, but a newbie too :thumbsup:
 
Good to see until the might of McLaren and Ferrari have it appealed and revoked on the basis of the diffuser controversy. Still Bernie and Max might side with them to drive a wedge in the constructers new found group to weaken them and retain their power base. Lots of politics to go :thumbsdown:
 
But BBC has just reported:

Debutant Australian Grand Prix winners Brawn GP are making more than a third of their staff redundant to cut costs.
Hours after Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello completed a dream one-two finish in Melbourne, chief executive Nick Fry announced the losses.
"It's very unfortunate that we've got to do that but it's the change of technical regulations and obviously we are now a private team," he said.
About 270 jobs will be lost from the team's Brackley factory in England.

I thought money would not be problem after Richard Branson is now major sponsor of Brawn GP.

Theissen told the BBC that Vettel's failure to yield the corner cost BMW dearly: "Sebastian braked early and I thought: 'This is a clear-cut situation now, I know him, he won't do in any silly things.' But in this moment it had happened already.
"It's been very disappointing for both drivers, we are very confident Robert had won the race because he had closed in on the hard tyres," Theissen added.
"Both cars in front of him were struggling on the soft tyres. He was lapping about two seconds quicker and he lost probably a victory, Sebastian lost probably a podium position and both teams lost valuable points."

If this is the original round of redundancies that they announced a while ago then it's not really 'news' but rather the 'official announcement'.

All the teams are struggling to cut their budgets in response to the spending cap, BrawnGP is just the one doing the most.

I wonder if an appeal will amount to anything though. There's nothing illegal about the diffusers. Red Bull are right up at the top, but they don't have the diffuser.... or KERS!
 
Smacks to me of being a "different interpretation of the rules". I think Ferrari, Renault, McLaren et al are pissed off that their boys with all that money didn't think as laterally as Brawn, Williams (who were doing really well until Rosberg's wheel stuck at pit stop) and Toyota. Those teams clearly read the rule book with a more abstract view and the other's are just bitter.

Formula 1 proves every season that it is capable of making ridiculous decisions that ruin the spectacle for the fans and ensure that the bigger teams (usually Ferrari) are kept happy. There's so much money involved that they have to keep people tuning in to see the names race.

Interesting that Massa said that he didn't think that changing the rules to make the winner of the most races into the champion was fair on the teams and the FIA instantly delayed that rule change for a season (at least).

Anyway, the nonsense has begun, let's see who catches Max Mosley out this year!
