Roof top 00A696 Error

Hello everyone, i had a wierd issue with the roof today i want to share and maybe someone can help me fix it,
The hard top opens and closes correctly without any delay,stall or any visual malfuction.
But for some reason i get an error for 2 secs roof top impaired which goes away and an error with carly

"00a696 Hall sensor, Open circuit, closing movement rear end Module"

It could be the hall sensors on the rear right boot ram. But usually when they fall the roof will stop with the boot lid open.

In my case turned out to be the micro switches on the boot lid despite the codes referring to the hall sensors

ok seems like it showing some issues.

the bootlid seems to takes more time than usual to move and the gong error sound's when the roof is ready to mmove the bootlid

All my roof bongs have been broken wires.
I had one loose connector, system froze with roof in boot but boot lid open..

I know some have had split hall switches, boot micro switch fail.

Hey! I had a similar issue with my Z4. I think it might be related to the Hall sensor, which sometimes gives false readings. Try checking the electrical connections at the module first; something might be loose. If that doesn't help, it's worth taking it to a mechanic for a thorough check. Good luck!
By the way, these errors can also be caused by dirty contacts. Sometimes just cleaning them can make everything work as it should.

Maybe up to now, but that's not the complete story.

As the magnet inside the hallsensor composition tends to get rusty, their magnetism is lowering over time due to corrosion. That leads to a deviation in the signal of the attached hallsensor, which by definition delivers 4 mA or 15 mA current (low/high signal) to the CTM.
If this current deviates from these two values, the CTM sends a bong warning WITHOUT storing a faultcode.

It's a clear indication to replace one or both hallsensors with new ones.
