Roof Rattles and Window Squeaks

My roof is starting to do my head in with rattles. It/they seem to be coming from behind the passenger seat at head height. I’ve tried applying tape over the “spike” on the underside of the roof section along with thin strips of foam on either side, and whilst this did help a little there are still some rattles present. Anything else that I can try?!

I’ve also noticed the drivers side windows have started to squeak along with seal where both windows join. My wifes 435D convertible did this too so I assume it is a BMW trait. Any suggestions for this one? I would say grease or similar on the seal wouldn’t work as it would then smear on the glass. I found one thread online where someone had success cleaning the surface then applying Rain-X, but then others said it didn’t work for them.

Any tips welcome!

I was thinking the same thing about the noise behind the passenger seat at head height while driving to work this morning; it's very frustrating. On a nice road, it's completely quiet, but living in England means a nice road is a rare commodity...

Hopefully someone has a solution for us.

I did find a thread with a few technical bulletins for rattles after I posted this, so I’ll work through them when I get a chance. Not hopeful though!

Whether it fixes your specific issue or not, you should treat all rubber seals with Gummi Pflege (or similar) regularly to stop it drying out and cracking.
