roof not going all of the way down

When I put the roof down today I noticed that it doesn’t go all of the way down. I press the button until the light goes off but for some reason the locking mechanism doesn’t meet.

I raised it up and there is nothing to stop it going all of the way down, any ideas?

I gave it a little push and it went in but I wouldn’t really want to be doing this every time I put it down.

Possibly the motor that drives it,maybe on the way out
which makes me think, how long do they last!!!

cheers, that seems to clear it up, i will have a look to see if the roof closes in the same way as on the pics.

if it doesnt go 'all' the way down is there any danger in terms of getting caught by the wind? i wouldnt have thought so but best to check.

I only noticed very recently that mine was not locking into those clips that last few mm but i pressed on it to lock in and now it locks in everytime.

I always have the engine running when i drop or raise the top not sure if it helps the motor or not

No chance of the wind getting in there last year i had the top down in France (before i realised it was not locking in ) at some high speed driving and no probs

just nice to feel a bit safer knowing it wont!

il have a look at it as soon as the rain stops up here, i dont think it will be anything major but you never know!

are you talking about the clips in the middle of the roof when it is down?

weren't those clips removed in the face lift model?

I've removed mine in any case cos it was causing too much squeaking with the roof down...

yeah, if you look while it goes down you can see the latch move froom the roof as it is supposed to lock in place, above the center storage unit

my car is a 53 so pre-facelift.

You've removed the centre clip?? What holds the roof down and in place when open? Mine squeeks like a hooker's rusty bedframe... if this is safe I might try it. How easy was it to remove?

Mines a pre-facelift '54 3,0

Thanks

Paul

nice description of the squeak! mine sounded how Id imagine that would :?

I guess nothing holds it down but it doesn't exactly flap about and they removed it for the post facelift anyway...

I actually only removed one side the clip (I couldnt undo one side  ) - I could see where it had worn about the protection...

Just a few torx screws if I remember correctly... I kept the clips and screws so I can return to standard if needs be :D
