Roof Movement Inhibited

Had an issue for the last couple of weeks. Every time I open the roof, just as the boot lid goes all the way back the RMI warning appears along with the associated bongs and whisltes. Absolutely nothing getting in the way of the roof.
By coincidence, it was time for a service last week so asked them to check it out.
The reply............no faults reported on the computer and anyway 'they all do that'!!!!!
Anyway, long story, but the servicing team leader (just love corporate nonsence titles) is now invloved and hopefully will get it sorted in the next couple of weeks.

All in all I had a dreadful experience with the service at Sopers Lincoln (not just the roof issued, but the whole service, from start to finish). They used to be alright so I'm hopeful that the other day was just a minor glitch.

They don't 'all do that'. Bit of fobbing off bs going on there if you ask me.
Hope they get it sorted for you, don't let up on them til they do.

What is the error code that is being thrown? There should be a 3 digit number displayed?

It's not throwing up any error code, just the boing and the red warning symbol. It's due in on the 20th, so fingers crossed.
The whole patronising, 'stupid customer' attitude that got me, but hey, lets see what happens.
Dave

You can get at the error code when it gives you the message and the chimes go off. I think you use the button and wheel on the indicator stock. A sensor went on my roof over a year ago and I told them the code (CC-ID 447), which made it a straightforward fix. Thread here:

Agreed, what rubbish. I have been luck with my last 5 z4 having no issues with roof opening or closing.
You press the button and it opens or closes.
Like the windows it just works.

Get it in and get them to fix it with no rubbish

Well, it's in the stealers today, so fingers crossed it will be sorted this time. Apparantly their 'top man' will be working on it.

Got a 320d as a courtesy car...........not impressed with the cheap and nasty plactics used in the dash. Certainly doesnt look like a 28k car to me. Revs well though :-)

New 320D? or older one... If the new one, then I agree, esp around the gearstick area, thin cheap looking plastic and one reason for me why I don't hold much hope for me getting a 4 series, well, unless the first job is to wrap those nasty plastics!

I had a 118 and was quite ok. Just the keyless pointless thingy stuffed it in the drinks holder oh we dont have one of these either. It had the idrive and a nice colour display in the center which was nice compared to ours.

bigdavey you'll have to let us now how you get on. My goes to sopers on the 5th next month with a noise boot lid closing and opening when the roof is being lowed and raised. not looking forward to the hassle now

Well I just had a call from the service dept to say that they found a knackered sensor (hoorah! well done them). They have ordered another one which should arrive today when they will fit it, although they have no idea how long that will take.
Trucker...... there is the option of going to Boston. I think I might give them a go next time, or more likely the independant on the Ancaster road. My boss takes his there (320d), only downside is they dodn't do warranty work. Bit of a trek I know (depends how near Lincoln you are I guesss) but I have to say I am wholly unimpressed with Sopers

Finally sorted. Picked it up yesterday. ut seems as though a ram sensor was faulty, whatever one of those is. Just happy that it finally work properly now.

A hydraulic ram sensor... which means likely the entire hydraulic ram has been replaced;

Looking at that I guess they would replace the whole thing.
Good job for my warranty then.

Different subject Maniac, have you changed to non runflats yet. Looking forward to what your opinion is to the change.

No I've not changed yet, still plenty of tread on the P Zero's... clearly not enjoying the car enough!! As soon as I get the non run flats on I'll let u know..

We had a similar problem on ours. It reported that the hydraulic had overheated. !!!!
Well eventually the wife got the roof away enough to drive home. When she arrived home she was able to close the roof.
Once the car was in BMW Chester they found a faulty sensor and ended up changing them all.
Roof operates without issues so far, but now the air con doesn't work and the headlight adjustment is off. Points to the floor.
