roof motor removal from boot

Following on from George7 and his supurb effort, Ive attempted to get the motor out from the boot. Issues I'm having are.

1. Arms are to short, so having to use my left arm
2. Fingers are way to big
3. lid wont come off the top
4. Cant get anything on the bugger to get it off

Anyone have any ideas on how to get this bloody lid off the motor ?...

Determined not to get the roof off the bugger..

Quick update, managed now to get the cap off with a big screw driver and pull the motor out of its hole... You can hear the water sloshing around inside... But I cant free up the cables at the moment. Ill add pictures to help others later.
 
Got the motor out but when I removed it a magnet dropped out. Had a spare motor but trying to suss the pipe run now.

Got the canister that holds the motor out with a big adjustable plumbers spanner. Took some force and cut the cable tie when I could see it.
 
Hope you get there in the end. I'll just pay up if there's someone local doing it at a decent price, as it seems like a bit of a tight squeeze to get it out
 
Good for you for putting the effort in but I really can't see the point. Had mine relocated for £80 in 45 mins, very tidy and professional job.

For the risk involved in ruining the motor I'd travel to meet a professional...but that's just me.

The 5 or 6 guys across the country are all practised and very skilled in the process having fixed and moved between them probably more pumps than I have had hot dinners
 
Hi Gents. New here and have owned our trouble free 54 reg, 78k, z4 3.0i Auto for a year. Well, trouble free until the roof refused to close on Saturday. I've got it closed, but manual release seems to be seized and while the motor is running, it's effectiveness seems intermittent at best.

Forgive a newbie asking an oft repeated question (I have been looking!), but could you tell me who my nearest roof guru would be? I keep seeing Ducklakeview's name, but he seems to be in Merseyside and I'm in Calne, Wiltshire. Is there anyone closer to me who does something similar, or do I have to hit the M5/6? :cry: :driving:

Hi Stu, You are right between Number5 in Bristol and Bowser somewhere east of you, have a search for their posts or start a request thread and I'm sure they will be along to offer their services.

Bowser134 is in Yateley off M3 and M25

I'd have loved to if handed £80 over to someone but I'm far over in West Wales. Got it sorted in the end...

Best tip other than get someone else is to put a lamp from the rear glass facing down...
 
Hi Everybody

Another Newbie. I've had some helpful advice already relating to wheels and tyres. But have been reading this thread with interest. It seems prevention is better than cure. My roof motor is working fine at the moment but I would like it transferred to the boot before there is a problem. I live near Lincoln. Are there any 'experts' in the Lincoln area?
 
Ducklakeview has just done a session somewhere around the Fens ,he is from NW
pm him and he can discuss with you if there are any more remote sessions planned
