Roof motor dead, then brought back to life.... *updated*

GuidoK and Tug - thanks for the replies, I might give the diesel bath another go, with the motor running in it just to see if it cleans it up some more. Also, what oil do you recommend for lubrication? Something light, like sewing machine oil?
 
I've got a roof out at the moment as it was poor to start moving (Fine once it was given a push)



I'm hoping that a top up of fluid will resolve it, but I'm moving the motor to the boot anyway just in case it's not. All scheduled for tomorrow, so I'll take some pics and add them if all goes to plan.

Sowing machine oil is to light (maybe even lighter than diesel oil). more something like engine oil, compressor oil, that sort of stuff.
In theory the bearings shouldn't have to be lubricated as they are sintered bronze bushings, but it doesn't hurt.

I've got some compressor oil - cheers for the advice.
 
Quick update, nearly a year on and (touch wood) the roof motor is still pulling like a train and I've had zero problems.... :D
