Roof fault

Hi All. I recently bought a 59 plate 30i. I have noticed a red roof warning light occasionally comes on when I'm driving (cc-id 447). I charged the battery around Christmas and it seemed to go away for a bit, but returned this week and went off (with the bong alarm) almost continually. The roof was also a bit jerky when I was putting the roof back up. As forums suggested, I checked the boot well for water but it was bone dry. I noticed the alarm went off after I put the inner boot roof cover down to allow the roof to come down, but have since raised the inner boot roof cover and the alarm and warning light haven't gone off again.
Any ideas?

Lots of info on here about roof issues.

It could be wiring, a hall sensor or microswitch.

Best to get it looked at soon.

Budget around £400-£450 for the job if you go to a main dealer. Sometimes it’s better to just get it sorted.

What age is the battery?

Many many faults caused by old E89 batteries..

It's worth buying the Bimmerlink.app and a Bluetooth OBD2 to link your phone and Z4. It will let you know what the roof fault codes are.

I think Bimmergeeks ProTool would be a better option if he has an Android phone or tablet. Protool can open the boot, if necessary. No one has ever confirmed if BimmerLink can do that. If your roof fails mid operation, you won't be able to open the boot for repairs without software, or contorting yourself doing the Pin 12 trick.

Btw, if the battery change doesn't do the trick it's most likely the boot closed microswitches.
