Well inbetween jobs today i thought it was a perfect opportunity to sort my car insurance which is due on wednesday, I got my renewal quote through a few weeks back for a not too argueable, for being 24 anyway, £1100 from elephant.

So i nip onto confused and i got a lovely wallet pleasing quote of £770 :D unfortunately from elephant again which pissed me off but thats what they rely on people just renewing and not searching for a cheaper quote! But i was a very happy chappy with that quote! Big up at this point

Right i'll pay that off now so its done, logged onto halifax online to check my balance, although i knew there was enough in but you never know, and lo and behold theres a been a £900 dent in my balance via 2 transactions i havent made!! WTF!! Big down at this point

Anyway i got straight onto the halifax fraud dept and after an hour of faffing the money has been returned and a new card and account details are on their way

Apparently both transactions have been traced to the same IP address in Birmingham and a further 3 transactions totalling over £1000 were blocked by the Halifax!

Hopefully this evening will be more like a ride on the teacups, a little more relaxed

Don't you just hate it when that happens. You have to wonder, especially when you are careful with your cards and security details, how these people get enough of your personal info to do this sort of thing. :x

Glad you got this sorted - I have to say the banks are getting good at spotting this. Someone tried to withdraw £500 on my credit card in Sri Lanka... And I was in Fife. They cross-referenced recent transactions, put 2 and 2 together and gave me a call to tell me and sort a new card. Only downside being the 5 working day wait for a new card - at that point in time it was an important peace of plastic

Sorry to hear about the card issue, but pleased to hear you found some cheaper insurance, at 25 my insurance this year was bit over £400 so over a grand would be daylight robbery lol

Glad you got it sorted. I've started giving ATMs a brief check before using them now, some of the skimmers are pretty well disguised

Cheers guys, funny thing is dont use that account really, all i use it for is transferring an amount of money from my business account to this account each month and i have 3 direct debits that go out, car loan, mobile and gym membership. I mistakenly transferred some money into this account in september and i decided i would withdraw it as cash as my wage for that week. I withdrew the money from my local cash point and as i was there a lad riding past on his bike shouted "i wouldnt use that cash machine mate they rob your details" as apparently a few people have had the same problem i have had today after using that machine, but as nothing happened in the following weeks i thought nothing more of it, until today!

I havent used that card in any other cash point, any shops or online payments in the last 12 months or even longer apart from that one withdrawal in september, so who knows maybe the kid was right!
