Roll Hoop Covers - How to remove?

I tried to remove my roll hoop covers at the weekend as I suspect the long standing 'ticking' noise I thought was from the rear deck or boot is actually the passenger roll hoop cover. While the outer edges appear to prise apart easily (they appear fixed together with rubber sockets and plastic tabs) the inners appear reluctant to come apart and I really didn't want to break anything so gave up. The hoops have the wind deflector (the bits inside the hoops as well as the detachable part) and it felt that it may have been these sections that were reluctant to come apart. If I can get this off, I've bought some sticky felt that I plan to put on both hoops to prevent any further noise from them.

removing them is near impossible without snapping off the plastic tabs. I found a plastic tyre leaver from my bike worked best.

This is on an e89 though, the construction could be quite different?

I've found this now though so I'll take another look at the weekend: http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=331584&page=2

Looks like the fronts are screwed on and the backs pop off... I'll refocus on the backs rather that trying to prise both apart. I have the proper tools to do it hopefully without marking anything.
