For a GMT master 2 black face size 40 ceramic bezel in mint condition complete with everything. Around. 4 years old. (The model between 2008-2012)

What's a good price?

best bet is to get an appraisal for replacement cost and current value. an accredited Rolex dealer may be able to help you out with that. I have a couple and the values swing drastically whether you are selling, buying or insuring.

See what they fetch on ebay?

Prices vary - its astounding that new they were around 3500 GBP now they are selling second hand from 3500-5500!!!

Mind boggles.

Hence maybe someone with experience can guide me.

If you're selling it can be difficult to pitch at times, I found this when selling the Tag Monaco and felt I'd underpriced it in the end but selling prices varied by 5 to 800 quid. It's probably best to pitch it slightly lower than the eBay traders where their offering a warranty.

Tim.

Private sale probably between 4-4500, but if a dealer pics it up probably a bit less.
Lots of 2nd hand Rolex dealers about, so do a google.
If it's mint, then I'd say min 4500, the gmt I and IIs are still appreciating so you shouldn't be too far way from what you paid originally 4yrs ago, hth

The Swiss franc is running very strong in comparison to the pound since about 2008- meaning all Swiss Watches look expensive in comparison to 2006-8 costs ,

I've got a SS Submariner date which I am considering moving on. Just looking at values for these and they seem to be around £3-4k mark on that Chrono24 site that ZedfourM quoted. That's quite a lot more than I paid for it brand new.

Rolex's generally are such sound investments.

A SS Daytona is next on the cards for me.

The UK pound trades against Swiss Francs at approx 63 percent of its 2006-08 value - as apart from the metal ( most will be steel and not rose gold) and the marketing you are buying swiss man hours this accounts for the same rise in pound value of any swiss watch at the moment (Omegas have done the same) - I don't think they have gone up by nearly as much if the chosen currency to complete the valuation is swiss francs.

not thought about in those terms before but in essence a swiss watch is basically an investment in the swiss franc market.

i did something a bit silly five years ago - i took a major loss on my belongings which were lost in an international move - what i forgot to claim for was the loss of documentation for my omega - I have the watch but not the case and certificate - which effects its future value :headbang:
