It wasn’t Woots by any chance? He’s a Red Bull F1 mechanic who’s very fond of his socks

Thank goodness for that! The risk of premature bearing shell wear would pale into insignificance compared with the risks posed by the things lurking under the seat!

Which is why seats have to be taken out when you get a used one.

On the latest M it was a pair of glasses and a worther caramel sweet (sticky stuff - but different)

We did warn Woots that he’d go blind…

Glasses and a Werther’s Original carries implications about the previous owner - perhaps it was used to tow a caravan!

Wow Paul, those look worse than mine did at 78K. :o

Maybe he wasn't quite as meticulous about warming it up fully!

Tbf he only put about 6k on the clock. Ive always thought its down to when they are being used by salesman and on test drives for the first 5k miles when normally used as demos etc.

I had the same concern with mine as the first keeper was BMW UK, so I suspected whoever had it as their company car might have been less than particular about warming it up fully!

Mine too - BMW UK for a few of months and not many miles, privately owned for just over two years, then me since 2009.
I changed my bearing shells at 50k miles after 3 years and almost 25k miles of careful warming up and mechanically sympathetic driving in my hands. However, in that time it saw lots of country lane fun as well as very frequent and hard track use. A couple of other forum cars had spun bearings, so I was a little paranoid despite changing the oil every 2-3 track days or each 6k miles. The shells looked fine and probably didn't need replacing (based on visual inspection of the shells not oil analysis).
13 years later as I'm approaching 100k miles, I'm going to be changing them again soon since a replacement engine would be near impossible to source in Aus. I just have to sell a couple of organs to fund it, based on hourly labour rates for skilled mechanics here!

ETA - I've just realised that I posted what amounts to all of the above on this thread in 2023 at 90k miles... A least I'm consistent and it hasn't spun a bearing yet! Now, who wants a kidney, a lung and half a liver? :)

Same here, 130k miles. Drag, track, wherever a Z should go
