Glasgow airport used to have a free drop off area but a charge for picking up. So everyone just used the drop of area for picking up and dropping off. They have now made the paid for pick up area the drop off and pick up area. So now it's £2 for less than 10 minutes. Then increases exponentially after that.

There is no point in being early any more to pick someone up. Best thing to do now is wait until they have landed. Tell them to call you as soon as they are off the plane. Then you can leave the house after receiving their call.

Theoretically you could be stuck in a queue waiting to get out of the pick up area and go over your 10 minute time slot meaning you get charged more than the £2.
At Glasgow Airport all they had to do was stop the idiots double parking at the drop off area, instead they have found a way to make a ton of cash.

There is a free shuttle bus every 10 mins from right outside the airport entrance to the long stay car park (5 minute journey) where you can park for free for 30 minutes. I also don't think there is anything stopping you from returning either, it's done by ticket rather than ANPR which the drop off and pick up area is.

Just to put a different perspective on it, unless airports charged very high prices for use of the drop off and pick up points then
1) they would simply not get the throughput of cars to pick up and drop off, not being intended to park up go in and wait. Taxis and Uber would also fill them and wait for rides if it were say just £5 an hour
2) business folks would just park in them for the day or 2, not being arsed to walk the 5 mins. from multi storey parks
From my own perspective on business I really don't care if I have to park if it's £30 for the day or £10. It has to go over £50 before I even think twice as clients paying the bills just don't care when viewed as a part of a day's consulting fees, usually a £300-£500 flight, taxis and expenses.

No way would I pay £30 to park for a day.

i sometimes pay £7 a day to park at work. maybe say 3-5 times a month. yes it is expensive but it's a luxury i'm willing to pay for as i don't do it every day.

the alternative would be get out of bed an hour earlier. pay £5 to get the train. have to drive and park near the train station for free. and add at least 30 minutes onto the each way commute as i need to get 2 trains or walk for 15-20 mins (one way). so i would lose at least 2 hours of my time to save £7. when it's only 3-5 times a month i just pay for the luxury. if it was every day then sure i'd be getting the train.

otherwise i get dropped off and picked up every day as it's on the wife's commute it's just that she has 1 weekday off a week. so costs me literally nothing to get to work every other day. wife drives past my office on the way to her work.

Its kinda why I got another bike for commuting.
I could get to work faster, get home faster, park for free right outside my works front door and other than the cost of the bike save around £1300 a year.
If I was to use public transport I would have needed to get a bus to the train station, the train to Glasgow and then a 20 minute walk to get to work and would add a few hours to my day which I was not willing to do.
On the bike I could get from my house to work in 25 minutes even through rush hour traffic.
