Roadtrip south England - France?

Hey,

I've noticed there's a bunch of English users here, so I thought maybe you have some ideas for the optimal route. I'm thinking of doing south England and maybe Brittony and Normandy with my Zed around Easter time. I haven't made any detailed plans yet, but so far it looks like I'll take the ferry from Oslo, via Denmark to Harwich, then 'do' southern England before taking the ferry from Poole or Southampton via Jersey to Cherbourg. I haven't figured out how to get back yet 8)

So, my question is: Should I go along the southern coast straight to Southampton, or are there any aluring, twisty roads in Wilts, Gloucester or even Wales that are worth a visit?

My (stretch) target is to do it all in about a week... :driving: :D

Cheers!

Come over to Wilts and have a 'mini meet'. I'm in the north of Wiltshire which is the south Cotswolds, such a pretty area.

hmmm.. West Mids here and know southern wales fairly well, but this Triangle is news to me... still reading that thread......

Im in Bounrmeouth/Poole :) Though I'm moving.

Some good roads in and around the New Forest heading over towards Southampton, 'wild' horses in places too...

If we could just get the quality of the French roads over here we would be sorted! I'm sick of these dam* UK roads, I'm dodging pot holes every day driving into Edinburgh, I think I saw about two pot holes the last time I was in France (my parents live there) and that's in the country side. One thing is though if the French had roads like ours they wouldn't stand for it they'd be out there demonstrating while we roll over and take it up the..... :o

:)

hmm - having looked up the EVO triangle - why bother going to France? :)

Because France is the most awesome country in the world. :P

Fantastic country, same population as the UK but quite a bit bigger! I go there a couple of times a year, at least once being the LeMans 24 Hr. :driving:

I should really do that, my folks live in the Loire region just South of Le Mans. If I lived in the South of England I'd head there most weekends!

mikedav,

Are you doing the Mongol Rallye? Looks awesome, if I lose my job I'll sign up! :)

A colleague of mine is actually involved in the Christina Noble charity, I enjoy charities that lets you drive like a madman for a good cause!

As a Brit, resident in France, I can only say if you enjoy long sweeping roads, beautiful countryside, no Police, no traffic then get your motor over to rural Brittany. Some fantastic coastal roads to the west of Dinard, just stay off the motorways and you will enjoy every minute.
