Roadster Blindspot...

Is it just me or is car full of blind spots?!

I'm finding it so hard to judge parking the thing sometimes as looking over the right shoulder is useless...

Know what you mean about the over the shoulder view with the hood up...

never had a problem parking or on the motorway though - find the mirrors are excellent :D

Yep, reversing in a car park is a slow all-three mirror job with the hood up.

Hood down and it's a total joy though, just look right round and no blind spots at all.

i just rely on the pdc and have never had problems.. on the motorway im using carving through at speed so people don't linger behind me :driving:

find it harder to judge the front spoiler to be honest..

Yeah after lowering mine I find the front end a nightmare to look out for, and with this car having s**t a long front end i am extra cautious lol!

Hood down is ace, no problems at all, but the hood just covers the rear side views for me, feel a little clumsy at times lol...

No worse than most other convertibles out the back, but the front end is a nightmare in multi storey car parks where you are nervous of kerbing the wheels as it's hard to judge being low down and a massive bonnet/hood.

I can't believe your having problems at the back. You're practically sitting over the rear wheels. If you can't judge where the rear end of the car is from there perhaps you should consider giving up driving. :poke:

The front end is an entirely different matter....I still haven't got used to the length of the nose after nearly 12 months.

Exactly why I never understood rear PDC on our cars... oh where is the rear end, oh look there it is right out the back window... fronts.... now that is a different matter and one reason why I would never lower my car more than standard :o

It's not knowing how long it is, PDC is pointless for that, it's knowing if some kid is stood in the blind spot in a car park about to get squashed! Even PDC might not pick up on that :(

Nah I've aimed for my mates a few times and it always gets them just in time

I'll probably get more confident in time, it's not all that bad, just not as easy as your average hatchback :)

If you adjust your mirrors correctly then there shouldn't be any blind spots when driving normally, parking is another matter mind. I think I've perfected it now, the fact that the car seems to spin on it's back wheels with such ease makes it a joy to reverse park.

The problem isnt judging where the car is going, its ensuring nothing is behind your shoulder!

The blind spot for me is where the area next to the anti-roll bars when the roof is up.

Yeah thats the area I'm having issues with! Makes me feel a little uneasy not being able to see out!

PDC never lets me down on parking. Seems to be spot on and finds anything from a twig to a person. I would however really like it to have been properly done front and rear like the X5 where you can judge back and forth to perfection to parallel park in tight spots.

Still scares me how far back you can reverse to a wall and how far away you have to stay going in forward

Hardtop gives way more visibility than the canvas, which is a real bonus when coming out of angled junctions too

Angled junctions are the biggest pain, sometimes there's just no way to see without pulling half out into the road, which can be very worrying.

Reverse parking is nice and easy, especially with the sensors, just need to get used to how much they "bong" when you're getting really close, I often find I could go a bit further back. The front is still a worry, I think I'm being cautious but tend to find myself closeer than I thought (which is usualy just about right, just closer than I intend)
Thankfully, I've not had much need to parrallel park.

I've just got my hardtop fitted, now I need to get used to the extra visability :) and the fact my car looks even nicer now 8) (although the dirty car with clean roof looks a bit odd)

I mainly find reversing out of a parking space at Tesco Express the difficult times. Can only really park front in, and when reversing there are cars/people all over, it's angled, and the shop juts out, with cars around the corners etc...

Straight forward manoeuvreing is fine, it's the angled turning with other cars around and people walking in/out of blind spots etc... you just can't rely on reversing sensors at all. Reversing upto things is easy though, just open the door and have a look as you roll it back, 12" off the back contact patch and your touching :)
