Road Rage Drivers/Boy Racers

Had a little niggle this eve from a driver and thought I'd share It. Have been very stressed recently so thought I'd go for a brief drive to cheer myself up and wind down before bed.

However, as If the world was trying to wind me up, I had a chap on my tail just waiting to find some opportunity to overtake. You see I was in a speed camera 30 zone single lane so was obviously being cautious. Just as we hit the national speed limit sign he was straight out into the other lane raring to get passed. It was at that point where I had enough; I too accelerated off and only finally let off after I'd made my point (plus it would've got dangerous if traffic had started appearing coming the other way).

What I'm wondering is how people on here deal with people like this? I don't mean people who enjoy their cars and some speed but those who are complete idiots. He didn't save himself any time as I had already caught up with him at the next lights.

I don't like to react but it feels sometimes like folk like this need giving a little nudge to prove a point.

Just let them overtake and be on their way and carry on enjoying your day. If they are dangerously tailgating I stick to my normal speed and leave it upto them. I'm the more mature person :)

I think it's best not to get involved I would of just pulled over and let him carry on you have nothing to prove. :thumbsup:
 
It never pays to get in to any kind of road rage - you never know who is going to step out of the other car and these kind of scenarios have a habit of escalating :(

When I get one of these type behind me I just ignore them and let them overtake -most times with a 3 litre zed both you and the other driver know there is no contest so nothing to prove :D To other road users they are making themselves look twats and almost certainly will get pulled up by Mr Plod at some point .
 
I can understand the temptation to do what you did but just let them past. The more you play with them a) the longer they are behind you, up your arse; b) the angrier they get and c) the more risks they'll take to try and get past.
 
Depends on my mood at the time and where I am. I know that not getting involved is the right thing to do and generally I ignore them. However, I do sometimes get involved, never to a dangerous situation but enough to get the point across. Particularly with young lads in 1.2 corsas.
 
Had someone do that to me in an MX 5 yesterday in a 40 limit coming up to a 30 limit. A bit before we entered the 30 limit they pulled out to overtake I banged it down two gears and then... completely shut the throttle. So as my 35iS poped & banged on over-run his little MX5 fart-boxed down the road. :rofl:

A police car would have made it complete but alas there was no appearance.
 
If i have someone tailgating me, I tend to just let the car slow down a bit more naturally under engine breaking.......
In MK though we just have problems where people dont know how to use roundabouts!
 
A short pull on the windscreen washers normally gets them to back off your tail. (How does this work with the hood down with you guys, does it clear your heads?)

Other than that, just let them go as its not worth the risk to other road users.
 
Driving different vehicles has shown me that people react differently to them. If I drive my DD (BMW 3) I get virtually no problems or incidents. Drive the Z4, everyone wants to race me and if I am in my VW Caravelle, everyone wants to pull out in front of me!

The Zed does seem to shout 'race me' and bring out the cock in other drivers, just be careful it doesn't bring it out in you!
 
Funnily enough this was in my 1.25 Fiesta. I wanted nothing more than to (safely) accelerated up from 30 to 60 but with a guy overtaking me doing the same It spoiled it.

It was more a 'I want to enjoy this stretch of road and I'm not gonna let you stop me even if you are in the opposite lane trying to overtake'. But my safety instincts had to give in and let him pass.
 
Depends on my mood -- usually when I'm stressed out over something I get quite tired and retreat within myself, so I would be more likely to just let him pass. But if I'm on a bit of a good high for some reason, I'd have definitely dropped it a couple of cogs and smoked him and laughed while doing it. :D
 
Yes, i'm often pretty retreated by i guess i was just wanting to hold my ground a bit more. Funny that whatever overtook me must've had a bigger engine than me, yet we were level at one point...perhaps that was when he was thinking 'what is this nutter doing!'
 
It's weird how an instinct can come over you at moments like this - is it a competitor instinct or my wife calls it a hunting instinct? See another car ahead being driven in a spirited manner and it can kick in. See someone unreasonably close behind and it can kick in. Reactions can be dangerous though - I've sometimes been surprised by my reactions as I think I'm quite laid back but on the road, safety needs to come first - certainly before instinct :cry: Only yesterday on a very relaxed run out to the coast (38.1mpg which is the highest average I've ever achieved) we were at the front of the inside lane of a multiple lane, large roundabout complex onto the A1 south. I heard the car before we saw it flash through and across the junction in the clear outside third lane on red and amber and up the slip road travelling at 50 to 60mph and accelerating hard :o My reaction - straight after it and up behind before we hit the main carriageway, traction light blinking (I know it's a dusty slip road) and point made, backing off as speeds got ridiculous. What's that all about . . . . .?! :thumbsdown:
I suppose the backing off is where the safety comes in and judgement overcomes instinct? :? :cry: Buggered up my best ever high average mpg though :rofl:
 
Yeah i think that is completely true Paul. This guy was hesitant after i sped up but i could tell he wasn't going to be the one to just give up. Slightly glad i have a small background in the safety industry as i seem to analyse situations a bit better.
