Hi folks , long time no post for me. Into I think 5th year of owning my 2005 3.0i.

Strange problem - when first started, if I press the brake the revs bounce up and down between 1k and about 2k. This is only when brake is pressed, idles at a steady level otherwise.

When car has been driven for 5 mins it no longer does it.

Has anybody had this ? Had a good look at intake pipework to try to find any leaks but all looks ok.

Any help appreciated !

it may be losing it overnight just standing. Start it, don't touch throttle, leave it to idle for 5 minutes then try. See if it's any different.

somebody has just had these exact symptoms and fixed it.. think it was a dodgy maf but can't quite remember.. a forum search should help you out

Yes, I'm pretty sure a new MAF Sensor solved the problem.

Anyway here's a link to the other thread:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=115355

Thanks for pointing me to that - the poster Timmo on that thread put up this good bit of advice

“The clue to it being electrical and not vacuum was also if we pressed the brake slowly, the revs went up the instant the brake lights came on. ”

I’ll need to try that. It probably doesn’t help the car sits most of the year and only does about 1500 in the summer for fun.
