Reverting back to standard exhaust on 3.0si

Your all going to think I am a nutter. As some of you are aware i had my custom exhaust done this week. I am now very happy with it. I`m just having reservations about the whole thing now. There is nothing wrong with the exhaust or sound, the garage is first rate. I just dont think modding is for me. I have never been into modding before and everytime I start up the car I just dont think the noise suits me or the car. I miss the subued sound of the standard exhaust. This is gonna be an expensive lesson but hey ho. My questions are - do you think the garage will revert the car back to standard? Since they have done nothing wrong I dont expect a full refund? Failing that what price am I looking at the revert back to standard at a dealer?

Thanks

I'd not make any rash decision at the moment. Give it a couple of weeks and see if you can live with it or even come to love it. If you still don't like it after a couple of weeks then see if anyone on here wants to try it out.

I had a straight through system (no cats or silencers and was probably illegal in most solar systems ;) ) on my e34 M5 that I replaced as soon as I could get my hands on a good OEM system. However once it was gone I really missed it and should have gone for something in between.

Did you keep your original system? Brand new OEM system is going to cost £££££££lots.

No the garage has it, was to big to take home! I no I wont be able to live with it, its just not me and doesnt suit the car imo.

Man, talk about an expensive lesson!!!!!!! That OEM system is going to be pricey to put back--and you'll have to foot the entire bill. Maybe you can sell the aftermarket to someone on here, but perhaps that's something we should tell everyone--find a car with the exhaust you want and drive it so see if it's REALLY what you want.

As to putting back on the old one, I'll bet they had to cut it to put the new one on, so it's pretty well shot.

Try looking up the part(s) on RealOEM then add some to it for dealer markup.

Ye its gonna be an expensive lesson! I just want to make it clear that the MIJ exhaust is top quality its just not my cup of tea unfortuantly!

I also don't like after-market products. I hope one day BMW extends its Performance range to all other models. :)

Your system was complete and undamaged on the floor in the back of their shop. I was looking at it with the boss this morning while considering options. I'm sure they would put it back if you asked. You won't be the first to change their mind

I'd put a call in at 8.30 tomorrow and ensure it stays intact. Talk to them but take a few days to consider it.

How about they put it back and keep the one they have fitted to resel, no furhter change of monies?

Guess you can see whyt I was being very specific about what I wanted, the sound it creates and what they are allowed to remove. That said I may hate mine when I get it tomorrow :?

Cheers CJ was nice to mee you, I am liking the calipers and dics on your motor. Thats good news about my exhaust. I will ring them first thing!

Cheers

Make sure to get some pics first if you decide to go back to standard! Interested to know what they did with the tips...... :)

Any chance you can do after & before videos/soundclips so that we can all see/hear how awful it was :P

I know what you mean. I myself love the sound of the standard 3.0si system. :)

I've done the same as you only on motorbikes in the past.

There seems to be some interest in the exhaust. As it stands I will be goin down to MIJ to get it put back to standard. I am waiting to here if I will get a refund at all but doubt it. What can be done is if someone wants to buy the exhaust off me then come down to MIJ on saturday and you can buy the exhaust off me for 300 quid, and then MIJ should be able to fit it straight away. I imagine it would be 50 quid ish to fit. I paid 490 for the original and exhaust has done around 150 miles and sounds superd just not for me.

MIJ performance is located in Walsall - http://www.mijperformance.com

How about, you get the original one put back on and leave the new one with MJP to market.

Give MJP performance the authority to sell-on the exahust and anything received is then split between both parties fairly.

50/50%.

Personally, if it were me I wouldnt be giving you a refund and would have expected you to have done your homework on potential exhausts prior to having one fitted. It was never going to be quiter than standard! But thats just me, albeit I am a reasonable kind of guy. :)

Like me saying, yes I will have those aftremarket wheels, drive on them for 150 miles and then decide they are not for me and expect a full refund! I think not unless I was able to prove fault.

Essentially your exhaust is now second hand and you have invoked labour charges attributable to the garage that may have to be written off for the purposes of HMRC. From other reports about them, I'm sure they are good people at MJP so we shall see.

Hope you can work something out with them. Such changes are never easy but these guys will try to work something, but IMHO don't be expecting refunds if they correctly fitted what you asked for and wanted.

Hope your old system escaped the skip. Mine was fetched off in the morning and seems the stainless man came by and took it away as I'd not specified to leave it to one side. Not that I wanted it, but some were after the old tips and someone the box to test cut up. No going back for me now....

Mine is however truly awesome. Exactly what I wanted and took them from 11.00 to 7.30 pm to finish it, so value for money on a labour perspective. I'll get some shots on a different thread later.
