Return of the 8 series

Always been a huge fan of the original will the new one be any good?

A friend of mine owned one from new. Lovely looking car, but he described it as playing Russian roulette with £5k every time he drove it. Too many parts bespoke to the 8 series, so most parts very expensive!
 
They were nice , my grandfather had one , 840 version he kept it in portugal , got to drive it a couple of times . So smooth so comfortble .
 
Never trust a car that needs two batteries...

Seriously though, the original 8's were lovely.
 
I wonder if this is an attempt to add some prestige back to the brand. You don't hear "BMW w*nker!" half as much as you used to.
