Retrofit Sat Nav

Heya folks
My 03 3.0 L has Sat Nav but not the full 7 inch screen insert in the top of the dash.
I think my sat nav is called "business" system or something like that.(someone will correct me)
I purchased the car secondhand and the guy I bought it from threw in a OEM retrofit kit, 7 inch screen with loom and BMW destructions on how to fit.
I found a thread in the "how to" on this retrofit but note there was mention in regard to other threads about the retrofit.
I have used the good ole "search is my friend" and come up with narda.
I would like to view other threads b4 going ahead with this "chop " job for obvious reasons.
I have enlisted the help of my friend whom is the local BMW tech and told him that I would do some homewrok to try and simplify the retro.
There was mention in the thread I did find about a template which seems to be missing.
Any help re info would be greatly appreciated.

ozz4, what does your "retrofit kit" consist of?

You need the following

MK4 DVD Drive
Monitor
Professional Nav Head Unit
Wiring Loom

The GPS Aerial you should have and you may have the MK4 DVD, butit may only be a MK3 so you need to check.

It's an easy Job, just cutting the hole in the dash is a bit worrying, just take your time.

Heya srhutch
I have not a clue as to what MK drive i have.
definetely have a DVD player for the GPS disc.
How do i confirm.
I have the 7 inch monitor and std BMW cable/wiring loom with mesh net cover on it, which i will post up the number on it tomorrow if it helps.
As I have sat nav already I have the aerial
Template you mentioned...where did you acquire that...
Thanx mate

As peddy says if you have DVD's you have the MK4, still think you would need a new head unit though as the one you have has the screen built in.

You will have a "Business" headunit instead of a "Professional" one.

The template you can make yourself using some card and shaping it round the monitor and then transferreing to the dash. I might still have mine lying around, it's not perfect but it's not far off.

Post the number of the loom, and also donnect everything up before you start cutting holes to ensure everything works OK.

yep new head unit needed, screen will work when the dash is cut and it should be relatively easy to do, compared with the whole retrofit.

I thought both screens would work but now that I think about it...the loom will bypass one I think
Thanx for the feedback fellas.

I dont s'pose there is a member out there who just so HAPPENS to have a head unit that they want to let go.
Does it have to be Z4
I see you all laughing but hey you neva neva know if you dont ask the question.

Head unit from X3 will fit also I believe, but they are like hens teeth to find, I got my first one with MD player from forum member, and bought another via ebay (but also forum member).

Best bet is a global search on ebay.

The loom doesnot connect to the head unit apart from two wires for the voice, but you will still need a professional headunit

I bought one unit from Germany and the other from the USA. There are no international implications and no coding is required for the replacement.

Here is one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OEM-2003-08-BMW-E85-E86-Z4-NAVIGATION-RADIO-PLAYER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem20ae304cbfQQitemZ140361354431QQptZCarQ5fAudioQ5fVideo

Thanx pvr
that unit has a disc slot ..is that where the GPS dvd goes or is that a cd player.....
I have my dvd disc in the console at rear where my 6 stacker is.
So do I no longer need my DVD palyer for GPS at rear.. ???
