Hi folks

Does anyone know

1)
if it is possible to retrofit the bluetooth phone kit to a Z4M (mine has the buttons on the steering wheel to activate but it was not specced by the original owner i guess and

2)
is there anyone in the UK (outside of dealer) who would fit an aux in capability? My 2006 model obviously considered such things as a bit too space age and I've always been disappointed with the itrip devices that broadcast a signal to the radio.

Thanks a lot

Not sure on the first one; I believe you have to go aftermarket to get bluetooth, but someone more knowledgeable than I will be along to confirm no doubt!

I purchased my aux in kit from the following link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Z4-E84-E85-X5-E53-AUX-Mode-Cable-3-5mm-Female-Dash-Mount-Socket-OEM-Style-/301066788151?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item4618fa9d37

Took me 5 minutes to fit it, following the various guides on the forums for removing the vents (make sure you have some rag to protect the dash trim. I used my credit cards to wedge the clips open and a very small flathead screwdriver to reach them in the first place.)

I routed my cable round to the ashtray, but had to drill a hole in the bottom of the removable tray to route the cable in.

It all works brilliantly for me now, so should do for you, and the seller is great for info/assistance when fitting. :)

I would fit a parrot mki9200 kit and a sot cable

You then get a decent bluetooth solution usb and ipod cable and bluetooth streaming

With the right sot cable it's plug and play

The hardest part removing the air vents

Yes you can retrofit. I have all the parts a couple of years ago for my previous Z4.

Loom
ULF
Mic
Bluetooth Antenna
Upper Steering Cowl
Pairing button for centre console (required)

You would also need the rear boot carpet and ULF mounting bracket unless you have DSP/TV already which might have enough space.

You may struggle to get the parts now. Best bet would to from a scrapper.

As above you can waste hundreds of pounds on second hand 10 year old OEM parts followed by several days dismantling the interior to fit it all, or you could spend <£100 and buy a stereo made this century that will have Bluetooth and AUX/USB as standard.

Many thanks for speedy replies.

Ed Doe - your 5 mins is unlikely to be threatened!

Parrot does seem a good idea but I use a TomTom 920 already and probably have enough extra bits in the cabin. It's not bad at all for bluetooth phone capability actually - if it took an additional / external microphone it would be perfectly adequate. It just really struggles when there's other cabin noise (or squeaks - other posting!)

do you have a genuine loom? or a self made one?

It was all genuine oem kit. Sold it all to a forum member a couple of years ago. From memory he only really wanted the loom.

i find the bmw phone bluetooth in my car to be really crap. people always moan about it. apparently i sound really quiet and distant. its often very broken up. im sure its the bluetooth, if i disconnect from it and just use the phone its much better apparently. it only seems to go one way. i can always hear people ok but they cant hear me.

its a bit disappointing really i have all the nav etc system in the car but it all a bit rubbish. i guess its 10 yrs old so old tech etc but still....

Of course it is, vanity is the only reason anybody wants any of the OEM rubbish. An iPhone can do a much better job of all of it.

And an android an even better job still... :poke:

Plus the obvious weight-saving and reduction in COG which we all hanker after. I'm stirring up the demand for the lesser specced models, watch this space!

Is it possible to just bluetooth enable the stereo so that it could pick up music from the iphone (ignoring the phone side of things for a minute) ?

No BT steaming possible with the OEM head unit. You would need the parrot kit or similar. It is possible to get a parrot or dension bt kit and have it all hidden and working using the buttons so is worth investigating.
