Retro fit seat upgrade question

Hi All,

After a bit of guidance.

I'm looking to upgrade my seats from the fabric manual operated ones to a set of the red leather powered ones..

Would the electric connections already be in place to hook up the motors or would i have to do some work to get some fitted..?

It seems like a reasonable simple job to remove and re install the seat as a whole but if i need to do some electric work that may make it beyond my capability....
 
Ah fantastic.

Mines the 2006 2.0i and i could just about see some sort of wiring underneath but wasn't sure if that was just for the seatbelt etc..

I think i'll take a dive and get them ordered.. :D
 
Your probably right that you can see seat belt wiring, as yours is an 06 I don't believe any of the other wiring will be there

Ah just read that properly... Bugger.. is the wiring an easy enough job do you know or do you think it's best to have it done at a garage?

Wiring for electric seats is relatively simple (power wires directly into fuse box and earth wires to nearest earthing point) - the wiring for heating is a little more involved and requires a retro-fit kit which is no longer available.

There are some good guides in the How-to section.
 
If you look up posts by Marlon you will find a lot of useful information. He replaced his standard seats with powered, heated ones. I had mine done a couple of years ago but not being very competent in electrics I had a local auto electrician do the work. The parts that were no longer available I managed to find at a BMW dealer in Latvia. He still advertises on the Internet but whether the parts are still available I don’t know. You will also need a new switch panel with the heated seat switches. You might find one of those on EBay. It was a bit of a hassle to find the parts and get the job done but I thought it was worthwhile. Good luck. :thumbsup:
 
Thanks everyone.. I've got a couple of very competent friends who can help me with the electrics and I'll probably refer the guides.. I'm not overly bothered about the heated seat element as she only comes out in the sun and will be kept covered the rest of the time.. :thumbsup:
