I had a bit of a problem, driving at speed (ahem) around a roundabout and suddenly got a red tyre pressure warning (normally get an amber first) so pulled into a nearby car park.

Got out of the car and could hear the air hissing out (never a good sign) couldn't see the source of the leak so decided to stick the slime kit on it) charging up then started smoking, so went to plan b, called the AA. The guy used a decent compressor and stuck in a screw plug so went home (only about a mile away). The tyres were a little "tired" after having put up with me throwing it around on country lanes for around 20k, so probably needed a change (still legal but I'm an "enthusiastic" driver).

Did a bit of online searching, Formula one Auto had a cracking deal, 4 224/45 R17 Assy 6 for all four wheel, £370 - result. The tyres are even better than the 5s for grip and quiet too.

The guy took off the wheel and said it looked like no slime went in, I checked the slime kit and the pipe was jammed with a latex plug. I think that I may have turned the filler on in the past when topping up. and that may have leaked out and sealed the pipe.

Morale of this story, don't bugger about with your slime kit but the new GYs are brilliant

20k of enthusiastic driving in a rw drive car on one set on tyres :o Never got close to that.

I always carry rats tails and have fixed a couple of flat tyres, at the side of the road, over the years, on different cars. Never tried the gunk stuff.

When I ditched the runflats (good riddance), I added rat tail kit, canned air, and a small 12v portable compressor to the boot. I've never had the gunk/slime work on nails/screw holes.

It is a good price.

The current Kwik Fit offer is better still at £335.
